Championship Weekend Set At The Rockford Speedway
By: Kevin Ramsell

Thursday, August 31, 2006 (Loves Park, IL) – Five Champions will be crowned in this weekend’s racing activities at the Rockford Speedway.  Three will be crowned this Saturday night and the other two on Monday Funday.

Champions will be crowned in the NASCAR Late Models, Budweiser American Short Trackers and the Coca-Cola RoadRunners division this Saturday night.  The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action, along with the famous Outhouse Races will get underway at 7:07 p.m.

Ricky Bilderback will continue his streak that he started in 2001 by picking up his sixth straight NASCAR Late Model championship.  Bilderback currently has a 124 point lead over Jerry Gille.  Bilderback already has 10 feature wins of the season and currently sits 11th in the Division One points for the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series national program.

The Budweiser American Short Tracker championship won’t be determined until the checkered flag falls on their feature event this Saturday night.  George Sparkman currently holds a 26 point lead over Matt Berger.

Gene Marocco currently holds a 51 point lead over Dan Carlson in the Coca-Cola RoadRunner division.  The 66-year-old driver pretty much needs to start the feature event to pick up his first ever championship.

On Labor Day, the Speedway will host its annual Monday Funday sponsored by Yellowbook.  Champions will be crowned in the Grand Nationals and Figure 8 divisions.  Plus, the Legends, Bandoleros, Allison Legacy, SuperCups and FIRA Formula Indy cars will be in action.

Brock Behnke currently holds a 66 point lead over Doug Bennett in the Grand National division.  Behnke will pick up his first championship on Monday.  The most points a driver can receive is 62 points.  This will be the first championship for the second generation driver.

Pat Smith has a 19 point lead over defending Figure 8 champion Chris Gantz.  Expect a spirited battle to the checkered flag by these two Rockford Speedway veteran drivers.

The Winged Women on Wheels and Hornet division champions will be crowned during the 41st Annual Chicago International Trucks National Short Track Championships.  Both divisions will be competing on Friday, September 22.

Tickets are on sale now for the Night of Thrills on Saturday, September 9th and the NSTC on September 22-24.  For more information, please visit the Speedway’s website at www.rockfordspeedway.com  or call the track office at (815) 633-1500.
