Berger Grabs NASCAR LM Feature At Rockford
By: Kevin Ramsell

Saturday, July 29, 2006 (Loves Park, IL) – Matt Berger, Brock Behnke, Pat Smith, and Nick Beinlich took home feature wins on Allstate Night at the Rockford Speedway.  Also, Ricky Bilderback and Jeremy Miller went head to head in a special match race.

Berger returns to the NASCAR Late Model division and takes home his first feature win of the season.

Mike Beyer and Brett McCoy lead the field to the start of the 30-lap feature event.  Beyer would take the early lead.  On lap 2, George Bohn would get tapped by Bob Kahler in turn two sending Bohn into the wall and bring out a caution.  Beyer would continue to lead at the re-start.

Berger started third and got on the inside of Beyer on lap 3.  Two laps later, Berger would take over the top spot.

Jeremy Miller started tenth and climbed his way to the front.  At the halfway mark, Miller would get past McCoy and to take over the second spot.  He would spend the final 15 laps trying to chase down Berger.  At the checkers, it was Berger with a win by two car lengths over Miller.  McCoy would hold off Ricky Bilderback for third.  Beyer would round out the top five.

Behnke, current Grand National point leader, took home his second feature win.

The 25-lap feature event got off to a rough start when Warren Swinbank spun in turns three and four.  Rick Nielsen was caught up in it and was done for the night.  At the re-start, Dennis Basler and Doug Bennett put on a great battle for the early lead.  By lap 6, Bennett would take over the top spot after Basler got loose coming off turn two.  Behnke moved to second.

Behnke looked to the inside a few times of Bennett before he got the top spot over Bennett on lap 14.

Fred Nason would take over second with seven laps to go, but would not be able to catch up to Behnke who rolled on to the win.  Bennett would come home third with Chad Smith in fourth.  Basler would round out the top five.

Smith picked up his fourth Coca-Cola RoadRunner feature win.

Charlie Frisch grabbed the early lead in the 20-lap feature race.  Smith started sixth and worked his way past Beau Lawson for second on lap 6.  Two laps later, Smith would get on the inside and challenge Frisch for the lead.  The two swapped the lead back and forth until Smith takes command of the lead on lap 13.

Smith would take home the checkered while Lawson held off Dan Carlson for second.  Rick Nielsen came home fourth with Kris Nilson rounding out the top five.  Nielsen and Nilson failed post race inspection.

Beinlich had an easy drive to take home the 20-lap Allison Legacy feature event.

Beinlich took the early lead over Scott McGinnis.  Beinlich pulled out a healthy lead over Jake Gille.  The only caution flew on lap 6 when Collin Laursen spun in turn 2.  At the re-start, Beinlich pulled away from Gille to an easy victory.  McGinnis came home third with Dave Cooter Jr. in fourth and Brock Russell in fifth.

The evening capped off with a Match Race between Ricky Bilderback and Jeremy Miller.  The two competed in a best two out of three 4-lap each race.  Bilderback took the first one with Miller taking the second.  The fans voted to have Miller take the outside for the third race.  Bilderback would get the jump over Miller.  With two laps to go, the two touched going into turn one.  But, Bilderback held off Miller at the finish.  “That was pretty cool,” Miller stated.  “We should do this every week.”
