Flippo, McBride, Carlson Take Feature Wins At Rockford

Wednesday, July 05, 2006 (Loves Park, IL) – Amy Flippo, Steve McBride and
Dan Carlson captured feature wins at the Rockford Speedway.
Becky Proehl started fifth for the first 15-lap Winged Women on Wheels feature
event. Linnea Weerda moved from her third starting position to the lead
on the opening lap. Weerda held on to the lead until Proehl got by her
with five laps to go. Amy Flippo followed Proehl past Weerda.
Flippo tried to get past Proehl in the last few laps. At the finish, it
was Proehl with the win and Flippo in second. Weerda held on for third
with Sabrina Castillo and Alicia Magee rounding out the top five.
Tammy Hawkins grabbed the early lead in the second 15-lap feature. He
had a healthy lead. But, that lead slowly got small as Flippo moved from
her sixth starting position to second. With two laps to go, Flippo got
on the inside of Hawkins and the two raced side-by-side to the checkered
flag.
At the line, it was Flippo by a bumper over Hawkins. Castillo came home
third with Proehl in fourth. Weerda rounded out the top five.
Flippo took the overall win.
Steve McBride held off Alan Bekielewski to win the 13-lap Hornet Swarm.
McBride grabbed the lead at the start of the event. Bekielewski started
third and the two put on a great battle for the lead throughout the entire
event. Bekielewski looked for a way to get around McBride, but
couldn’t get him as the checkered flew.
Roger Schultz came home third with Joe Rupp in fourth. Mark Vicencio
rounded out the top five.
Carlson held off Chris Gantz to win the Figure 8 feature. Josh
Lundy led the field to the start of 10-lap feature event. Carlson got
past Lundy and was able to hold on to the lead at the checkered flag.
On Saturday, it’s a Mid-Summer’s Night Scream featuring Doug Rose and his
Green Mamba Jet Car. Plus the Devastator Monster Truck, School Bus
Figure 8, Tough Truck Obstacle Course, Drifting Exhibition, First Ever
Paintball Gauntlet, Spectacular Drags and the Hornets. The action gets
underway at 7:07 p.m.
The WXRX Ambulance will meet its maker this Saturday night!!!
