Behnke Celebrates The 4th In Rockford Victory Lane
By: Kevin Ramsell

Tuesday, July 04, 2006 (Loves Park, IL) – Brock Behnke celebrated his Fourth of July with a win in the Grand National division at the Rockford Speedway.  BJ Sparkman, Jason Van Hise, Kyle LaPier and Tyler Blume also captured featured wins on Gilley’s Heating and Air Conditioning Night.

Behnke picked up his first feature win of the season in the Grand National division.

Darrell Garman grabbed the early lead in the 25-lap feature event.  Behnke started sixth and patiently made his way to the front.  On lap 10, Behnke got to the inside of Garman and took over the top spot.

Fred Nason would get by Garman for second with seven laps to go.  But, Behnke had a healthy lead to hold on to the win.  Nason would come home second with Garman third.

BJ Sparkman survived a wild Budweiser American Short Tracker Feature.

Kelly Evink took the early lead in the feature event.  The race was slowed multiple times for cautions.  The worse happening on lap 14 when Jonathan Carsey spun in turns one and two.  It caused a seven car pile up which included BJ Sparkman.

With 8 laps to go, Evink was trying to hold off Matt Berger coming off of turn four.  The two touched causing Evink to spin.  At that point, NASCAR officials called the race due to the time limit.  BJ Sparkman inherited the lead due to the top two being involved and was declared the winner.  David Cooter came home second with Jack Atchison in third.  Aaron Rude and Tim Steger rounded out the top five.

Jason Van Hise took home the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere in the Coca-Cola RoadRunner division.

Chris Gantz took the early lead in the 20-lap feature event that was run in the dark.  Gantz held on to the lead until Van Hise got past him on lap 7.  Van Hise would have an easy dark ride to the checkered flag.  Dan Sander would come home second with Ricky Weimerskirk in third.  Gene Marocco and Gantz rounded out the top five.

Kyle LaPier took the checkered flag in the 20-lap Legend feature.  The best battle was between Ryan Miles and Ross Kenseth for second.  Kenseth look every way to get by Miles but at the checkered it was Miles getting the position over Kenseth.

Tyler Blume held off Alex Arelano to win the 12-lap Bandolero feature.  Coming off of turn four on the final lap, Arelano made a move to the inside that got the fans off their feet.  At the line, Blume won it by half a car length.

Racing continues on Wednesday night with Unlucky Larry’s Leftover Fireworks Display and Armed Forces Night.  The Hornets, Winged Women on Wheels, Figure 8’s and One on One Spectacular Drags will be in action.  All active/retired military will be admitted for half-price.  Racing starts at 7:07 p.m.
