Bilderback Makes It Two In A Row At Rockford

Saturday, May 20, 2006 (Loves Park, IL) – Ricky Bilderback made it two wins
in a row on USG Kids Night at the Rockford Speedway. BJ Sparkman, Alex
Papini, and Mick Ellis also took home feature wins.
Bilderback made it two in a row in the NASCAR Late Model division. But
the race was called after 24-laps due to rain.
George Bohn grabbed the early lead. Bilderback, who started 10th,
quickly worked his way to the front. By lap 7, he was up to
second. Three laps later he would work on the inside of Bohn to take
over the top spot.
Jeremy Miller followed Bilderback to the front and was gaining on the leader
when Mother Nature interrupted the race on lap 24. NASCAR Officials
declared it an official race at that point.
Bohn held on for third with Jerry Gille fourth. Josh Nelms came home
fifth.
It was BJ Sparkman’s turn to visit victory lane in the Budweiser American
Short Tracker division. Jack Atchison took the early lead from the pole
position. BJ started sixth and already moved up to second by lap
5. Two laps later, BJ would go on the inside of Atchison to take the
lead.
BJ would go on to the win with Billy McCoy charging to a second place finish
after starting eighth. Kelly Evink came home third. George
Sparkman came home fourth with Justin Scott rounding out the top five.
“We had a loose plug wire in qualifying and I guess that gave us a good
starting spot, but it was still wasn’t an easy win,” BJ stated in victory
lane.
Papini would get past Dan Carlson with two laps to go to win his first ever
feature.
John Logan Jr. was the early leader in the 20-lap feature event. Dan
Carlson moved from his eighth starting position up to take over the top spot
lap 13.
Papini, the second generation driver, started 11th and worked his way to the
front. With four laps to go, Pat Smith and Gene Marocco got together in
turn four. Both made hard contact with the outside wall. Smith,
the current Points Leader, was done for the evening.
On the re-start, Papini got on the inside of Carlson and the two put on a
great side-by-side battle until Papini cleared Carlson with two laps to
go. Papini would go on to the win with Carlson in second. Ricky
Weimerskirk finished third. Logan would come home fourth with Dave Long
rounding out the top five.
“I would like to dedicate this one to my dad, I wish he was here to see
this,” an emotional Papini stated in victory lane.
Ellis took home the feature win the Supercup division. Alexander
Yendrzeski took the early lead in the 20-lap feature event. Ellis
grabbed the top spot at the halfway mark and held off Brandon Scurto to the
win. Ken Jones would come home third with Andrew Forster and Erik Gehrke
rounding out the top five.
Next Friday night, it’s Friday Night Fright at the Rockford Speedway.
The action will get underway at 7:07 p.m. The Wild Thang Monster Truck
and Carolina Crusher Monster Truck Ride will be in attendance. Plus
there will also be the School Bus Monza Race, Figure 8 Train Race, Roll Over
Contest, Figure 8’s, Diesel Divas, Spectacular Drags, Budweiser American
Short Trackers and much more.
Then Saturday night, it’s another exciting evening of NASCAR Dodge Weekly
Series action with the NASCAR Late Models, Grand Nationals, RoadRunners,
Formula Indy FIRA cars, and Rascal Outlaws. The racing action will start
at 7:07 p.m.
