Road America To Host June Sprints
Over 400 Racers To Compete During June Sprints® Elkhart Lake, Wisc. June 14,
2006 – Over 400 competitors from across the nation, as well as Canada and
the Bahamas, will be racing at Road America during the Kohler / Chicago Region
SCCA June Sprints®, June 22- 25, 2006. The event at Road America is the first
trophy stop to win amateur racing's most prestigious title, the Triple Crown
of Racing.
June Sprints is an ideal weekend for grassroots racing enthusiasts and
spectators. The family-friendly paddock offers up-close viewing of the cars
and the chance to mingle and talk with the drivers. Cars will be on the track
daily, Friday through Sunday, competing in nine groups with 24 different
classes.
The event schedule also includes the return of Drifting, a competitive sport
where drivers compete in rear-wheel drive cars to keep their cars sideways as
long as possible. At the top levels of competition, drivers are able to
keep their cars sliding for extended
periods of time, often through several
turns. On Saturday, professional demonstrations
and an instructional clinic will be
held at the Briggs & Stratton
Motorplex. Additional demonstrations and an amateur competition will be
held on Sunday.
June Sprints is also Road America's annual Salute to Youth weekend–a great
opportunity for non-profit youth organizations to attend the races at reduced
rates. For more information about youth group discounts, call Mary Lou Haen,
800-365-7223. Autograph sessions are scheduled for Saturday, 12:00–1:00 p.m.
and Sunday, 11:45 a.m. –12:45 p.m. Helicopter
rides will be available for a
nominal fee, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.,
Saturday and Sunday.
