Champ Car World Series To Be Joined By AMA SuperMoto At Road America
MILWAUKEE (May 31, 2006) - The finest racing on four wheels comes to Road
America September 22-24 when the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World
Series Powered by Ford hits the 4.048-mile Elkhart Lake road circuit, but this
year's event will bring some two-wheel excitement to the show as well.
At today's joint Champ Car/American Motorcycle Association pre-event press
conference at Elkhart Lake, it was announced that the AMA Super Moto series
would run alongside the Champ Car World Series, the Champ Car Atlantic and the
Rotax Max Challenge Series at this year's Champ Car Grand Prix of Road
America. The motorcycle event will be run Saturday night under the lights as
the on- and off-road series competes during a Champ Car weekend for the first
time.
"We are always looking for ways to bring more excitement to the fans
during our three-day festivals of speed and the AMA Super Moto series will
help us do that," said Champ Car President Steve Johnson. "We are
looking forward to a great weekend in our return to Road America and AMA Super
Moto will add to the weekend's value for our fans."
Nelson Philippe (#4 CTE Racing - HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) and Will
Power (#5 Aussie Vineyards Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) were on hand on a
sunny Wednesday at Road America to help build excitement for the September
race weekend. The Champ Car Fast Lap team was on hand to give pace-car rides
around the fabled circuit as were some of the stars of the AMA Superbike
series, who gave Philippe and Power high-speed rides on the back of their
Suzuki GSX-R motorcycles.
Former Green Bay Packer All-Pro defensive lineman and current Milwaukee Mile
executive Gilbert Brown was one of the first riders to climb aboard a Ford
Mustang GT/CS for a ride with the Champ Car Fast Lap team, and emerged with a
new perspective on speed.
"Man do these ladies know how to roll!" Brown exclaimed upon getting
out of the car. "I could barely look but I didn't scream. That was a
great ride."
The Champ Car World Series makes its first visit to Milwaukee this weekend
with the June 3-4 Time Warned Cable Road Runner 225 at the Milwaukee Mile.
Qualifying takes place on Saturday with Sunday's race getting the green flag
at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. Fans can watch all of the action live on SPEED, or via
the Race Director feature on the official website of the Champ Car World
Series, www.champcar.ws.
