Tour De Road America Raises Almost $20,000 For The Lance Armstrong Foundation
American LeMans, TransAm,Toyota Atlantic, IMSA GT3 and Star Mazda Series Teams, Drivers and Crew Join Together for Cancer Survivorship

ELKHART LAKE, Wisc. (September 9, 2005) –  On Saturday, August 20 after all the engines shut off, and the drivers took off their helmets, suits and gloves, they strapped on another kind of helmet and took to the Road America circuit without their big horsepower and with two less tires.

Over four hundred bicyclists, fans, and world class race drivers pedaled together around the beautiful 4.048-mile road course in the rolling hills of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. In its second year, the Tour de Road America benefiting the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) made headlines as almost $20,000 was raised.

Drivers from American LeMans, TransAm, Toyota Atlantic, IMSA GT3 and the Star Mazda series all joined the ride to help raise an astonishing amount of money for the LAF.

During such a busy race weekend, like the Generac 500 at Road America, the teams, drivers and race fans turned out in droves and took the time donate to the LAF, bid on silent auction items and participate in the Tour de Road America ride.

Several teams and crewmembers from around the paddock took it upon themselves to help “pass the hat” to raise money for the LAF. This came in addition to the thousands of individual donations received over the weeks leading up to and during the weekend of the Generac 500.

“It was one of the most heart-warming and exciting weekends I’ve ever been a part of.” says event co-organizer Dave Racine. “I owe a ‘thank you’ that’s difficult to put into words to the people who helped so graciously and donated their time and money to help the LAF.”

While the teams, crew, sponsors, and fans all joined in on the fundraising, nothing compares to the sea of yellow-clad bicyclists that circle the Road America race track.

"It is truly a sight to see, and putting this many people together on the Road America track to help raise money to fight cancer is inspiring," said George Siegle, Event Director. “Road America and all the great racing series taking part in the Generac 500 were an integral part of making this event the success it was.”

The Tour de Road America’s popularity is growing. Witnessed by an increase in participants, sponsor involvement and overall donations given. For more information on the Tour de Road America and to make a donation, visit www.pelotonride.org
