Road America To Host Colossal Cycle Weekend
Elkhart Lake, Wis., May 23, 2005––The AMA Suzuki Superbike Doubleheader
returns to Road America, June 2-5, 2005, to headline a huge weekend of
motorcycle racing. An extreme addition to the weekend is MOTOZILLA, the
opening round of the 2005 AMA Supermoto Championship.
Riders will compete in eight classes throughout the weekend. Superbike,
Supersport, Superstock and Formula Xtreme will run on the 4.048 track. Road
America’s turns, curves, changes in elevation and scenic beauty make the
track a unique favorite among racers. Current point leaders include Matt
Mladin, Ben Spies, Aaron Yates, Tommy Hayden, Jamie Hacking, Roger Lee Hayden,
Jason DiSalvo, Jake Zemke, Miguel Duhamel and Danny Eslick. Practice,
qualifying and final rounds will be held Thursday through Sunday. The Suzuki
Superbike Doubleheader will run final rounds on Saturday and Sunday. An
autograph session is scheduled for Sunday, 1:45-2:45 p.m.
MOTOZILLA will bring Supermoto, Supermoto Unlimited, Supermoto Lites and Honda
Red Riders in to tackle Road America’s .94 mile, purpose-built track at the
Briggs & Stratton Motorplex. Riders will be challenged by its combination
of dirt and paved sections, long, high-speed straightaways, jumps and corners.
Top riders will include Chris Fillmore, Doug Henry, Mike Metzger, Jeff Ward
and Wisconsin-native Ben Carlson.
Supermoto events are being held on Friday and Saturday of the event weekend.
Friday, June 3, is a promoter test day for all the groups and classes. It will
feature all the Supermoto stars, many of whom are eager to try Road
America’s track for the first time.
An autograph session will be held on Friday from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Admission to the Motorplex is free on Friday with purchase of a Suzuki
Superbike Doubleheader ticket at the Gate. In addition to the Gate fee, fans
can purchase a $10 Supermoto ticket on Saturday for unbelievable, up-close
viewing of all the hot track and paddock action.
Other weekend activities include the dedication of the new Suzuki pedestrian
bridge located between turns ten and eleven, near the Carousel Campground and
the Briggs & Stratton Motorplex. The bridge gives fans access to The
Beach, a new area that offers spectacular views of action in the Kink. Road
America will also unveil its new Suzuki Supermoto School (S3) and ATV and
Karting Adventure Programs.
The Sentry Insurance Salute to Cycles gives fans an awesome opportunity to
experience the track on their own motorcycles. Registration is necessary with
a fee of $25 on Saturday and $25 on Sunday plus daily ticket admission.
A VIP celebration marks the 20th year of Suzuki ’s GSX-R. Suzuki and
Hayabusa owners can register at www.suzukicycles.com
for free admission to Road America and the GSX-R party.
Men and women are invited to participate in the World National Wrist Wrestling
Competition on Saturday. Registration begins at 10a.m. with a $5 entry fee
plus Saturday Gate admission.
Road America celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2005, and offers diverse
racing venues, amazing viewing opportunities, fantastic concessions and
high-speed excitement to thousands of spectators each year. Located midway
between Milwaukee and Green Bay in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, it offers 626
grassy, rolling acres which include the 4.048 circuit and the .94 mile
purpose-built paved and dirt supermoto track.
Daily track admission during the AMA Suzuki Superbike Doubleheader event is
$10 on Thursday, $20 on Friday, $30 on Saturday and $30 on Sunday. Saturday
access to the MOTOZILLA event is an additional $10. Daily tickets include
