Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival, Sept. 17-19
Elkhart Lake, Wisc., Sept. 13, 2004—Road America will host the Elkhart Lake
Vintage Festival Sept. 17-19, with Morgan the featured marque and a Morgan
Reunion to be held during the fall vintage car race. More than 250 vintage
cars will be on track over the course of the weekend, competing in nine
classes. Tickets are $10 Friday and $15 for Saturday or Sunday and includes
access to the paddock, where the teams set up for the weekend. Parking and
children 12 and under are free with a ticketed adult. Tickets are available
online, www.roadamerica.com,

One of Morgan's early successes was a hand-built, three-wheel car, called a
"trike." Five of the rare "trikes" are entered in the
Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival, along with other Morgans from 16 states, Canada
and England. The Public Broadcasting System (PBS) is sending a photographer to
film the rare cars.
Gates open at 7:00 a.m. each day and race cars are on track at 8:00 a.m. each
day. Friday all classes will have practice sessions.
Saturday's schedule includes a guided tour of one of the original street
courses at a cost of $10. The tour will end at the start-finish in Elkhart
Lake, in time for the Saturday Farmer's Market. A one hour enduro will be held
on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
Sunday spectators may drive their own car on the track in a touring session
for $50 from 11:50 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. Touring is $50. Participants should be
at the track no later than 10:30 to allow time for a tech inspection and
briefing before going on track. The Morgan cars will have a parade lap at
12:50 p.m. and a Morgan-only race at 1:00 p.m.
Road America's store, the 4-Mile Merchant, will be open and selling the
track's new book, Road America: Celebrating 50 Years of Road Racing. Written
by automotive historian Tom Schultz, the new book covers the series that have
raced at the track over its first 50 years. The track's birthday will be
celebrated during 2005 race weekends.
Season Tickets for $200 also will be available at the 4-Mile Merchant. The
Season Ticket includes paddock entrance, parking and children 12 and under are
free with an adult holding a Season Ticket.
Road America 's first race was a Sports Car Club of America national race in
September, 1955.
