Scheffler, Haddy, Lubach, Straub Take Checkers At Plymouth Dirt Track
(Plymouth) For the first time in three full seasons, Plymouth Dirt Track got
its second full night of racing in on the scheduled date this past Saturday.
With one hundred cars checked in for a full night of racing, the Late Models
were first out to push the cushion.
Scott Specht (Sheboygan Falls), who has returned to racing after a one season
hiatus, picked up the win in the first heat over Mark Zimmerman of Kohler. In
the second heat race, Dan Sorce of Franklin grabbed the checkers over Charlie
Schmidt of Oostburg.
In A-main action for the Late Models, Rick Scheffler (Waukesha) kept his car
at the point and won the twenty-five lap feature over C. Schmidt, Specht, Jim
Schmidt (Cleveland) and Ron Stroika (Mukwonago).
Sprints were the second division to have a go on the track. "Rocket"
Robbie Wirth of Milwaukee beat Adam Miller (Plymouth) in the first of four
heats. T.J. Luedke (Plymouth beat Tim Melis (Plymouth) in the second heat, and
Rob Pribnow of Mayville picked up the win over Terry Marten (Sheboygan Falls)
in the third heat. In the fourth and final heat race, Al Schlafer (Sussex)
beat Oostburg's Brian "The Tornado" Portschy.
There were two B-main qualifying races to get into the A-main for the Sprint
division, and Dave Lisowe (Chilton) beat Plymouth's Ben Schmidt and
Manitowoc's Michael Emme. All three drivers qualified into the A-main.
In the second B-main, Jim Melis (Glenbeulah) picked up the checkered flag and
a transfer spot for the A-main. Danny Schlafer (Sussex) was second and
sophomore racer Brandon Thone (Sheboygan) was third. They would also transfer
into the A-main.
Michael Emme (Manitowoc) continues his hard-luck season this week with a hard
tumble in turn one in the A-main feature. He walked away from the incident.
Tim Haddy of Waupun had a rocket under him for the A-main feature in the
Sprints, and held of Tony Wondra of Campbellsport for the win. Shane Wenniger
of Kewauskum was third, Portschy was fourth, and Luedke rounded out the top
five.
Grand Nationals were third in the rotation for the evening with four heat
races, a B-main, and an A-main feature.
Brad Lubach of Elkhart Lake won the first heat race over Jason Roe (Sheboygan).Loren
Lubach of Sheboygan was victorious in the second heat over Brian Goetsch. In
the third heat, Jeremy Sauter of Random Lake beat Mark Scholten of Plymouth.
"Uncle" Brain Kaat picked up the checkers over Dean Horneck in the
fourth and final heat for the Grand Nationals.
In B-main action, Bruce Wright Jr. won and picked up the first of four
transfer spots into the A-main. Tyler Nault (Port Washington), Mark Fieber
(Cascade), and Tony Wiltzius also transferred into the A-main.
Loren Lubach held off a hard charging collection of Brads for the win in the
A-main feature. Brad Lubach was second, Brad Mueller (Random Lake) was third,
Brad Dahmer (Sheboygan Falls) was fourth, with Brian Goetsch rounding out the
top five for the feature.
The Outlaw Compact division finished up the rotation for the evening with
three heats and an A-main.
Jason Voss (Plymouth) picked up his first win of the season in the first heat
race, beating Jeremy Miller (Sheboygan Falls) and James Maechtle (Port
Washington). Jason Juech won the second heat race over Brian Dyke and Chris
Baumann. In the third heat for the Outlaw's Steven Weber (Plymouth) picked up
the win over Kurt Jakubowski (Sheboygan Falls) and Jay Riemer (Sheboygan
Falls).
In the fifteen lap A-main feature, Corey Straub (Plymouth) took the DM Sales
team car to victory lane over Jason Juech. Steven Weber was third, Jeremy
Miller was fourth, and Jay Reimer was fifth.
Plymouth Dirt Track racing continues its 2007 racing season next weekend on
Saturday May 19. Tickets are $10. The gates open at 4:30 p.m. and racing
starts promptly after the opening ceremony at 6:00 p.m.. Be sure to bring out
your family for the hottest racing action in the area at Plymouth Dirt Track
in the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds.
