Plymouth Dirt Track Wraps Up 2006

(Plymouth) The 2006 racing season at Plymouth Dirt Track concluded this Saturday night at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds.

 Plymouth Dirt Track crowned four divisions’ champions; Dave Enders of Kiel won the Sprint division title. Dan Sorce of Franklin topped the points for the Late Models. Brain Genske of Cleveland walked away with the championship in the Grand Nationals. While Jay Riemer of Sheboygan Falls grabbed the Outlaw Compacts champion title.

Grand National division was first up to complete their heats, B-mains, and a twenty-five lap A-main feature. Points Leader Genske clinched the 2006 Grand National title by merely starting a heat race. 

In the first heat race for the Grand Nationals, Luke Scholten of Oostburg picked up the win over Loren Lubach of Sheboygan. Brain Kaat of Plymouth outran Brad Lubach (Elkhart Lake) to the line in the second heat race. Mark Scholten of Waldo grabbed the checkers from Tim Thompson (Campbellsport). In the fourth and final heat, Brad Mueller (Random Lake) beat Brad Dahmer for the win.

In B-main action, Doug Teunissen of Sheboygan Falls led the way for the transfers in to the A-main. Bob Cullen of Chilton, Scott Sohrweide of Chilton, and Tony Miller of Random Lake also transferred by finishing in the top four.

Brad Lubach beat Random Lake’s Jeremy Sauter and Brad Mueller in the A-main feature. Chad Rathke (Random Lake) was fourth and Brad Dahmer was fifth.

For the season points standings, Brain Genske was first, Brad Mueller was second, Jeremy Sauter was third, Chad Rathke was fourth, and Brad Lubach was fifth.

Sprint cars were up after the Grand Nationals.  Earl Possi of Escanaba, MI won the first heat race over Rob Pribnow of Mayville. Kurt Davis of Milwaukee beat Tony Wondra (Campbellsport) in the second heat. In the third heat,  Brain Kristan of Beach Park, IL beat Troy Wondra (Lomira), and in the fourth and final heat for the Sprint cars, Al Schlafer (Sussex) beat Barry Maas (Waldo) to the checkers.

Lance Fassbender (Burnett) picked up the first of three transfer spots into the Sprint’s A-main by winning the first of two B-mains. Ken Jay Fiedler (Sheboygan Falls) was second, and T.J. Luedke (Plymouth) was third, transferring into the A-main.

In the second B-main, Josh Walter of Plymouth won over Tim Haddy of Lomira. Brain Portschy of Oostburg was third. All three picking up transfer spots into the A-main feature.

In the A-main, fans saw Tim Haddy take a hard roll on the front stretch, landing on his side. Another Sprint car ran right into his top wing. Luckily, Haddy was able to walk away from the wreck. After the clean up from the wreck, Kurt Davis went on to win the feature. Dave Enders was second, Rob Pribnow was third, Brian Kristan was fourth, and Michael Emme of Manitowoc was fifth.

The final points standings for the sprint cars have Dave Enders as the 2006 champion, with Danny Schlafer (Sussex) second, Lance Fassbender third, Ken Jay Fiedler fourth, and Kurt Davis fifth.

Late Models were after the Sprints. In the first of three heat races, Al Atkinson of Milwaukee muscled his way to the win over Todd Jensema of Sheboygan Falls.  Turk Letiza of Milwaukee found himself in victory lane after the end of the second heat race over Dan Sorce. Bret Sievert of Mukwanago beat Jim Letizia of Milwaukee in the final heat.

Scott Sohrweide (Chilton) picked up the win, and a transfer spot into the A-main, in the B-main for the Late Models. Mark Zimmerman (Kohler), Melissa Singer (Waldo), and T.J. Dolhun (West Allis) transferred in along with Sohrweide.

Jim Schmidt of Cleveland ran a great race in the A-main in the division and has the win to prove it.  Turk Letizia chased him to the line and finished second, with Todd Jensema third, Charlie Schmidt (Oostburg) fourth, and Tim Carmen (Sheboygan Falls) fifth.

Dan Sorce topped the season’s point standings by thirteen points over Turk Letizia. Tim Carmen was third, with Todd Jensema fourth and Russ Scheffler fifth.

Outlaw Compacts had three heat races, Scott Long (Waldo) came out victorious in the first heat race over Josh Moen (Plymouth). In the second heat, Elijah Riess took a wild ride, rolling four times in turn four on the second lap of the second heat. He was ok.  Curt Teunissen of Hingham went on to win over Jay Riemer. Corey Peters rolled his car in turn two in the third and final heat race, he also was ok. Jeremy Miller of Sheboygan Falls won the race of Jason Juech of West Bend.

Curt Teunissen would go onto win the A-main feature for the Outlaw Compacts over Jay Riemer, Jason Juech, Chad Riederer, and Chad Ninmer. 

Jay Riemer won the Championship in the Outlaw Compacts for the 2006 season, with Travis Moehring (Sheboygan) second, Scott Long (Waldo) third, Steven Weber (Plymouth) fourth, and Kurt Jakubowski (Sheboygan Falls) fifth.

Plymouth Dirt Track also featured the top eight Sprint cars (in the points standings) with a bracketed shoot out for a prize of $1,000 going to the winner.  Dave Enders and Michael Emme were the first two cars to compete in the two lap shoot out, with Emme taking the flag and advancing to the next round. Ken Jay Feidler beat Kurt Davis in the two lap show down. T.J. Luedke beat Danny Schlafer in the third match up, and Lance Fassbender beat Rob Pribnow in the fourth shoot out.

Emme and Fiedler were matched up for the next bracket, and it was Emme coming out victorious. Emme advanced to the five lap final. In the match of T.J. Luedke against Lance Fassbender, Luedke used the bottom groove to beat Fassbender to advance for to compete for the cash against Emme.

In the five lap all-out-dash-for-the-cash, Michael Emme went straight to the lead and never really looked back. He would win the race and the $1,000 purse.

It was a great season at Plymouth Dirt Track this year. Thanks to the competitors, the volunteers, the track officials, and especially the fans.
