Hot Racing At Plymouth Dirt Track
by Staci Abrahamson
(Plymouth) As the sun set and the lights came up over the Sheboygan County
Fairgrounds on Saturday night, the racing stayed just as hot as the weather
from that afternoon.
Grand National division were up first in the rotation with twenty-nine cars in
four heat races. Troy Theobald (Sheboygan Falls) picked up the first heat win
of the evening. Ryan Kessler (New Holstein) chased him down and finished
second.
Tim Anderson (Sheboygan) out ran Loren Lubach (Sheboygan) for the win in the
second heat. While Doug Teunissen (Sheboygan Falls) pulled out ahead of Brad
Dahmer (Sheboygan Falls) with a late lap pass in the third heat race.
Brad Mueller of Random Lake beat Luke Scholten (Oostburg) in the fourth and
final heat race for the Grand National division.
In the B-main, Scott Sohrweide (Chilton) picked up another checkered flag in
the division, beating Chris Seehaver (Manitwoc) to the line. Brian Kaat
(Plymouth) and Mark Scholten (Plymouth) finished third and fourth for the
transfers in to the twenty-five lap A-main.
Brian Genske (Cleveland) won the A-main feature for the second time this
season. Dahmer was second, L. Scholten third, Jeremy Sauter (Random Lake)
fourth, and Sohrweide was fifth.
In the Late Model division, there were twenty-six cars looking to race their
way into the A-main for the $800 winner’s purse.
Dan Sorce (Franklin) won the first heat for the Late Models over Tim Carmen
(Sheboygan Falls) and Turk Letizia of Milwaukee.
In the second heat, Charlie Schmidt (Oostburg) paced the field and won.
Rick Scheffler of Waukesha showed the way in the third and final heat for the
Late Models.
Jim Letizia (Milwaukee) won the B-main over Ron Stroika (Mukwanago). Kyle
Odekirk and Terry Goetsch finished behind them for the other transfer spots.
In A-main action, Randy Markwardt (Sheboygan) won his third A-main feature
this season, but not without heavy challenges from Rick Scheffler, who
finished second. Source was third. Todd Jensema (Sheboygan Falls) came in
fourth, and Turk Letizia rounded out the top five.
There were forty-two Sprints ready to push the cushion in five heats, two
B-mains, and the twenty-five lap A-main.
Danny Schlafer (Sussex) and Tim Haddy (Lomira) raced hard to the line in the
first heat, and it was Schlafer prevailing for the win.
Lance Fassbender (Burnett) picked up his momentum again by winning the second
heat over Manitowoc driver Michael Emme. Tim Melis, who was driving for
Jim Melis, won the third heat. Troy Wondra (Lomira) grabbed the win in
the fouth heat.
Dave Enders (Kiel) won the fifth heat over Kurt Davis.
A-main feature winner Ken Jay Fiedler won the first B-main to transfer into
the night’s feature. T.J. Luedke (Plymouth) and Jerry Ski (Milwaukee) also
transferred from the first B-main.
Brian Portschy (Oostburg) won the second B-main with Al Schlafer (Sussex)
finishing second and grabbing the last transfer.
Coming to the start of the A-main, Escanaba, MI, driver Earl Possi rolled his
Sprint car over. He was alright, but he was done for the night. Fassbender
charged hard and was pacing the field, but a well timed caution gave Haddy the
chance he needed to give Fassbender a run for his money. Haddy took the lead
on lap twenty-two, and won the feature Fassbender finished second, Wondra was
third, Enders was fourth, and Portschy was fifth.
In the Outlaw Compacts, there were two heats for the twenty cars to determine
starting positions for the A-main. Chris Baumann (Elkhart Lake) won the first
heat over Steven Weber. Travis Moehring (Sheboygan) won the second heat.
Jeremy Miller was second.
Corey Edler (Cascade) picked up his first win this season in the Outlaw
Compacts over Miller, Brian Dyke, and Jay Riemer (Sheboygan Falls).
Next week, the vintage cars will be joining the regular Plymouth Dirt Track
schedule. Come check it out at Plymouth Dirt Track, where the weather may be
hot, but the racing will always be hotter.
