Specht, Lubach, Sipple, Reimer Win At Plymouth
by Staci Abrahamson
(Plymouth) It was another high car count night at Plymouth Dirt Track this
past Saturday. 113 cars had an exciting night full of mud and dirt slinging.
Late Models were first up for the night. Rick Scheffler of Waukesha won
the first of three heat races in the Late Models division, while Al Atkinson (Milwuakee)
picked up the second heat and Russ Scheffler (Waukesha) grabbed the flag in
the third heat.
In the B-main it was George Scheffler (Waukesha) beating Turk Letizia to the
line for his first flag of the season at Plymouth.
The A-main feature the winner’s purse was $900, getting the drivers revved
up for the enlarged purse. Adding another flag to his wall for a total of nine
flags this season, Scott Specht of Sheboygan Falls charged to the point and
walked away with the winner’s check. Ron Stoika of Mukwanago finished right
behind him with Dave Jessen (Fredonia) hot on his tail.
Matt Yancey of Sheobygan falls picked up the first heat races checkers in the
Grand National division. Tim Anderson of Sheboygan picked up his second win of
the season in the second heat, and Scott Sohrweide (Chilton) won the third
heat in a back up car. Doug Teunisson won the third heat in the divison.
Jamie Gauger of Sheboygan dominated the B-amin and took the checkers
over Jerry Wenzel from Two Rivers.
The A-main had Elkhart Lake driver Brad Lubach taking his second win in the
last two weeks. Brain Goetsch of Sheboygan was second and Luke Scholten (Ooostburg)
came in third.
In the sprints, Chris Wiser (Neosho), The "King of the B-mains" at
Plymouth, won the first heat, while Jerry Ski of Milwuakee won the second. Al
Schlafer (Sussex) won the third heat, and Lance "the Geezer"
Fassbender (Burnette) won the fourth.
The top three cars in each of the B-mains transferred into the A-Main. Troy
Wondra of Lomira finished ahead of Kewaskum driver Bill Taylor and Watertown
native Ryan Tessman in the first B-main. In the second it was Tony Wondra
(Campbellsport) topped Robbie Pribnow (Lomira) and Shane Wenniger
(Kewaskum).
Scott Sipple (Elkhart Lake) celebrated his A-main feature win in what seems to
be the new trend for victory celebrations by climbing the fence in front of
the grandstand—a tradition made popular by Helio Castorneves (IRL) and Tony
Stewart (NASCAR). Lance Fassbender finished second, and Barry Maas (Waldo)
came in third.
The Outlaw Compacts had two heats with Tim Boss of Oostburg taking the flag in
the first heat and Josh Long (Waldo) winning the second. Long seemed to have
the car to beat in the A-main, but had some problems which ended his race. He
finished 14th. Jay Riemer of Kohler continued his hot streak of lat and won
his third A-main this season. Pete Mueller came in runner-up.
