"Geezer" Grabs Glory, Sussex's Schlaffer Supreme

(Plymouth) The racing was as hot as the weather Saturday night for the midseason night Plymouth Dirt Track. 104 cars were ready to put it pedal to the metal for an thrilling night of racing.

The late model division were the first to complete their races for the evening. Al Atkinson (Milwaukee), Rick Scheffler (Waukesha), and Scott Cramer (Random Lake) picked up wins in the three heat races. While Russ Scheffler rocketed his car to the front for the win in the B-main.

Franklin driver Dan Sorce celebrated his first A-main feature win, and second checkered flag, of the season. Dave Jessen (Fredonia) was right behind him to finish second, while Russ Scheffler charged hard to third.

Fans saw Brad Lubach (Elkhart Lake), Jaime Gauger (Sheboygan), and points leader out of Chilton, Scott Sohweide grab the three heat wins in the Grand National division. Roger Johnson (Saukville) won the B-main, his first checked at Plymouth this season.

Brian Genske of Cleveland was a  bullet in the A-main for the Grand Nationals, picking up his second flag of the season. Heat race winners Lubach and Sohrweide finished two three behind Genske.

With 33 cars running for the sprints, there were four heats, two B-mains, and an exhilarating A-main. Troy Wondra (Lomira),  Tony Wondra (Campbellsport), Danny Schlaffer (Sussex), and T. J. Luedke (Plymouth) won the heats. Schlaffer, with that win now holds the record for the most wins (63).

Scott Semmelmann (Brookfield) and Chris Wiser (Neosho) picked up the top two spots and transfered into the A-main from the first  B-main. Joe Wipperfurth (Sun Prarie) and Robbie Pribnow (Lomira) also grabbed the top two positions and transfer spots in the second B-main.

Lance "the Geezer" Fassbender (Burnett) picked up the A-main win. While points leader, Danny Schlaffer, followed right behind him. Scott Sippel finished third.

Waldo driver Pete Mueller and Cascade driver Corey Edler won the two Outlaw Compact heats. Mueller now has two flags, and that was Edler’s sixth of the season, but he wasn’t done for the night.

Edler once again had his car in top form for the A-main and cruised to his third A-main win of the season. Josh Long (Waldo), the points leader was the runner-up, and his father Scott Long (Waldo) finished right behind him.
