Down The Stretch

Going into racing action at the Powercom Speed Zone on Tuesday there was a popular theme…Time to make your move! With only one week remaining after this one it was time to either secure your spot on top of the standings or try to get within striking distance for a final night shootout.

The Grand National division started with the top three in points separated by only 6 points. Tim Doehling, Terry Van Roy, and Larry Richards did little to clear things up when the dust cleared after their feature. Doehling would hold off Van Roy to pick up the win while Richards would grab fifth. Doehling and Van Roy would begin their battle on lap 6 and not let up until the final lap. Doehling working the high groove and Van Roy the low groove and at different points it would like the other would have the win. But in corner four of the final lap, Doehling would take the spot and pick up the win. Dan Wirl would take third and Dion Wahl fourth to complete the top five.

The Charter Communications Street Stock division would run the second feature of the night and as custom this year provided the best finish. With The points battle in the firm grasp of Jerry Kope it was time to race for wins. Scott Solomon would sneak past Frank Formiller in the final few feet of the event to take the win. Formiller and Solomon would battle it out side by side for most of the with Formiller holding the advantage for the last half of the event that is until the last lap when Solomon drove into corner three hard and carried the speed through corner four and had just enough to beat Formiller to the line. Kope would storm to third with, Tim Reichenberger grabbing fourth and Shawn Haydon fifth.

The Budweiser Modified division feature winner would show why he sits comfortably on top of the standings with just one event left. Jay Schraufnagel would drive through the pack and take advantage of a couple strong contenders faltering to win the event. Schraufnagel would hold off a hard charging Mike Mashl on the last lap in picking up the win. Dennis Schultz continued his strong second half with a third place finish with Jarrod Anvelink and Mike Sandholm finishing out the top five.

The Signmakers Dirt Devil division would see Bob Fahser dominate the field as he would lead from lap 1 to lap 20. Fahser never looked back once he put his camouflage car out front. Jon Schultz would grab second and increase upon his 7 point lead that he had going in to the night. While John Hall, Gordon Lewis and Ron Koenig completed the top five.
