Hot Temps, Hot Racing

If you stayed away from the Powercom Speed Zone on Tuesday because it looked
like we might finally get some rain, you missed a great show. A huge
contingent of Budweiser Modifieds were on hand to entertain those who took the
chance to come out. Repeat winners would again become a theme to the
Victory Lane, but some streaks would be broken as well opening the door for
others.
Tuesday night's Feature action started with the Johnsonville Brats Dirt Late
Models on the track. From the word go it would be a friendly battle between
the Father-son dou of Terry and Nick Anvelink. The Anvelinks quickly jumped to
a commanding advantage over the field with Terry keeping his son at bay. But,
soon it would be Nick getting the best of dad and pulling away for an easy win
in the Johnsonville Brats Dirt Late Model division. Terry Anvelink would
lead Todd Jensema, Eric Pember, Nathan Winkel and Mark Weisnicht across the
line.
In the Grand National division it looked like Dion Wahl would grab his first
win on the 2005 at the Powercom Speed Zone but Tim Doehling would stand in his
way at the finish. Wahl would hold a consistent line for the early part of the
race while keeping the field in his rear view mirror (if he could have one
that is). If he had looked in that mirror, he would have seen Doehling and
Steve Seitz putting on an awesome display of side-by-side racing for almost
the entire first half of the race. Doehling would eventually win that battle
and go after Wahl. Feeling as if he didn't have enough excitement, Doehling
would engage in another side by side battle this time with Wahl. Doehling
would grab the top spot with Seitz following him by Wahl for second. At the
line it would be Doehling, Seitz, Wahl, Bob Cullen, and Troy Weich completing
the top five.
The Budweiser Modifieds Feature would start off in exciting fashion as
competitors would go four wide for most of lap one. When the dust settled it
would Dennis Schultz showing the way with Scott Mullen, Mike Mashl, and Jarrod
Anvelink in toe. Brian Mullen would begin to make a charge and when the
caution flag flew would find himself in fourth. Mashl would take full
advantage of the caution grabbing the lead from Schultz on the restart and
never look back except for a couple of late race cautions. Brian Mullen would
grab second as the field began to string itself out. Mashl would grab his
second consecutive Budweiser Modified feature win with B. Mullen, Schultz,
Brian Drexler and Anvelink rounding out the top five.
The Charter Communications Street Stock division is beginning to look like the
Jerry Kope division. Kope would once again come from deep in the field to grab
his fourth win of the year at the Zone. Mike Nehmer would take the lead early
in the contest and hold off a fierce charge by Scott Solomon but in the end
Kope would prove to be too strong with a pass on lap 15 to grab the advantage
he would never relinquish. Nehmer and Solomon would grab second and third
respectively, while Mark Schultz and Shawn Haydon would complete the top five.
Jon Schultz would once again steal the show in the Signmakers Dirt Devils
division storming from the back to the front and picking up another win. Brad
Lawson would put up a strong fight leading the first 14 laps before a yellow
flag gave SSchultz the only opportunity he would need. Schultz dove to the low
side snatching first from Lawson and motoring to the line. Kip Klawitter would
snatch second while Lawson, Ron Koenig and Patrick Klawitter rounded out the
top 5.
