Repeat Winners At Speed Zone
Racing again took center stage at the Powercom Speed Zone as the Gibbsville
Cheese INEX Legends made another trip to visit. The racing action would again
follow a popular theme as Victory Lane was filled with repeat winners in
2005
The Gibbsville Cheese INEX Legends would take begin the nights feature and
quickly turn into a two man show. Aaron Rake and Greg Hartlaub. Rake would
take the lead from Darwin Banes on lap 2 and hold it until lap 8 when Hartlaub
started to apply pressure. Hartlaub would use the lower groove to grab the
advantage and begin to pull away. But Rake would not be denied his first
feature win at the Powercom Speed Zone fighting back four laps later and
regaining the lead for good. Hartlaub would grab second with Keith Moline,
Adam Reed and Joel Wyttenbach completing the top five.
Terry Van Roy is making my job covering the races extremely difficult as Van
Roy grabbed his third straight Grand National division feature win. Van Roy
would work every portion of the track working his way form the 12th starting
position. Van Roy would grab the lead from the eventual third place finisher,
Larry Richards and never look back. On any other night Steve Seitz would have
been in Victory Lane, Seitz was just as dominating in his second place run.
Richards, Troy Weich and Bob Cullen finished off the top five.
In the Charter Communications Street Stock division, Jerry Kope has decided
that the White flag means go. It seems the 4 car is nowhere to be seen until
the white flag is in the air and then he is right there. Tuesday was no
exception as Kope would work his way through the field and overtake F.W.
Formiller as the White flag was displayed grabbing another win at the Powercom
Speed Zone in 2005. Formiller would lead a good portion of the event after
overtaking Scott Solomon, the previous week's feature winner, on lap 6.
Formiller would grab second, Solomon third, and Jerry Winkler would beat out
Tim Reichenberger in a great battle for fourth.
The Budweiser Modifieds took the track for their feature, after Chris Engels
and Ryan Besaw took their turn leading the race it began to look like the Jay
Schraufnagel show again. However, this week Mike Mashl would have something to
say about the outcome. Mashl would grab the lead from Schraufnagel and check
out. Two late cautions would not stand in Mashl's way and he would cruise to
victory. Schraufnagel, Brian Drexler, Besaw and Dennis Schultz would round out
the top five. Honorable mention would go to Brian Mullen who went for a wild
tumle in his heat race only to come back for second in the consr and eighth in
the feature.
The Signmakers Dirt devil division would see Bryan Monday build up a
commanding lead and look as if he would cruise to victory.
Unfortunately, as the case has been all year, Jon Schultz would make a late
charge and overtake Monday on the white flag lap and go on to secure another
victory at the Zone. Monday would lead Dustin Schwandt, Tim Draheim and Kip
Klawitter across the line to complete the top five.
