Great Action Continues In Oshkosh
by Dave Buss

It was an excellent night of racing again at the Powercom Speed Zone as some familiar faces returned to Victory Lane. Proving though that the competition is strong in every field, there were some recent feature winners who failed to qualify for their division’s feature event.

The WDLMA Late Models took to the track for the second time this year and it would quickly become a repeat of the opening night. Nick Anvelink would was little time getting the front from his outside row two starting spot as he overtook Tim Lemirande for the lead. Seven laps later his main competition from week one, Russ Scheffler and AJ Diemel, would join him at the front of the pack. AJ Diemel would gain the top spot an lap fourteen while Scheffler would grab the second spot two laps later. After a lap seventeen caution, it would be all Diemel as he extended his lead and grabbed the win in the Johnsonville Sausage WDLMA A Main. Anvelink would regain second with Scheffler, Ron Berna and George Scheffler completing the top five.

The Charter Communication Street Stock division would take the track with Ross Losse and Jason Kienast leading the pack around to the green flag. The night would belong to Jerry Winkler though as he took the lead on lap one and never looked back leaving the rest of the field to battle for second. The battle for second would feature Derrick VanderGalien and Mike Rauchel for most of the event with Rauchel winning out in the final laps. The caution would bunch the field up on Lap 11 as polesitter, Ross Losse would have problems but that would not help anyone catch Winkler. In the end VanderGalien would finish third while Jerry Kope and Ken Feavel would complete the top five for the Charter Communication Street Stock A main.

47 Budweiser Modifieds would compete for the 21 starting spots in the A Main. The competition in this division was underscored by the fact that last week’s feature winner would be unable to gain a transfer spot and have to go home early. As is the case week in and week out, Jay Schraufnagel would find himself pacing the field for a majority of the main event. However, unlike past weeks, he would be unable to hold on for the win as Brian Mullen would do the unthinkable and pass Schraufnagel on the white flag lap. Even with the last lap excitement it was a good night to have the number 10 on your car in Modified division as second, third, and fourth position would all go to a car with the number ten as Schraufnagel, Joe McGrath, and Paul Parker respectively grabbed those positions, Tim VandeHei would take home fifth.

Saying that Tim Doehling has things figured out in the Grand National Division would be an understatement. Doehling waited five laps and then grabbed the lead from Troy Weich and went on to grab his third straight Grand Nationals Feature win. Doehling has been perfect so far this year at the Speed Zone winning all three feature events held. Weich would finish third with Dan Wirl passing him late for second. Terry Van Roy grabbed fourth and Dion Wahl would finish fifth.

Bryan Monday would grab the early lead in the Signmakers Dirt Devils A- Main and hold onto through the first 13 caution filled laps. However, Jon Schultz made lap 13 unlucky for Monday as he would assume the lead position and cruise to victory in the feature event. Monday would finish second followed by Ron Koenig, Matt Hoge, and Nick Boldt.
