Oshkosh Drivers Reichenberger, Formiller Win At Their Home Track
July 27, 2004
OSHKOSH, WI - Tim Reichenberger and Frank Formiller, both of Oshkosh,
came home victorious in their respective Street Stock and Grand National
A-mains to highlight action Tuesday night at the Powercom Speed Zone.
Russ Reinwald of Plainfield scored a convincing win in the Modified A-main
while it would be Shawano’s Jasper Drengler winning the 20-lap Dirt Devil
A-main.
A total of 93 cars took part in the program led by 33 Budweiser Modifieds.
Also in action were 24 American Auto Sales Street Stocks, 18 Miller Lite
Modifieds, and 18 Corporate Impressions Dirt Devils.
Troy Weich, who had won the Grand National A-main the previous week at the
track, was injured in a heat race incident which saw his car spun in turn one
and hit by another vehicle. Weich was transported to the hospital with a
neck injury but was later released after being checked over.
Reichenberger fought with Dave Averkamp during the final half of the 20-lap
Street Stock A-main and found himself out front when the final caution flag
waved on the 17th circuit.
Averkamp gave Reichenberger a run on the restart but it was not to be as
Reichenberger went on to take the win. Trevor Schmidt swept around
Averkamp on the final lap to take second spot.
Ken Feavel finished in the fourth spot over Jerry Kope and Gary Neau.
Jerry Winkler, Adam Hayden, Jeff Jahnke, and Scott Solomon finished out the
top 10.
Formiller’s victory in the Grand National main came after he and Bernie
Schommer traded the lead over the final 15 laps of the race. Formiller
actually gained the top spot on lap two only to fall behind Schommer on
the fifth trip around the track.
Formiller moved back out front on lap 12 and would then use the outside line
of the track to hold off Schommer for the win.
Phil Coppersmith, Dan Nelson and Jeff Diedrick rounded out the top five in the
caution plagued event.
Reinwald made quick work of the Modified A-main as he jumped from his third
row starting spot to the lead in just two laps. Despite a set of yellow
flags that would slow his charge, Reinwald was the car to beat as he was able
to stretch out his lead after each caution flag.
The final yellow flag flew with 18 of the 20 laps completed when a marker tire
was knocked onto the track. Reinwald would sit in front of Eric Scribner
and Jay Schraufnagel on the restart with Lee Sohns and Joe McGrath following.
Brian Stern spun his car as the field went back racing ending the race as the
time limit expired. Reinwald took the checkered flag with the caution
flag. Scribner was credited with second over Schraufnagel, Sohns, and
McGrath.
Drengler led the final 14 laps of the Dirt Devil main event. It would be
Loren Rangeloff finishing in the second spot over Nick Firari, Kip Klawitter
and Russ Robbins.
Racing action continues at the Speed Zone each Tuesday through the end of
August. The track will host a special event on Friday night, August 6th
featuring the street stock division with a large payoff for the class.
The Dirt Devils and INEX Legend Cars will also compete.
The Powercom Speed Zone is located just off of Highway 41 on Highway 76 north
of Oshkosh. For more information contact the track office at (920)
