Lemirande Tops First Ever WDLMA Feature To Highlight Speed Zone Show

OSHKOSH, WI - Tim Lemirande of Verona made a triumphant return to the Powercom Speed Zone Tuesday night as he won the inaugural Wisconsin Dirt Late Model Association feature to highlight a full night of action.

Joe McGrath of Milwaukee won his first ever Budweiser Modified feature race at the track while Trevor Schmidt topped the American Auto Sales Street Stock main.  Mike Klawitter of Berlin won the Signmakers Dirt Devil feature.

The largest crowd of the young season turned our to watch 116 different machines in competition.  The WDLMA portion of the show was the first ever for the young sanctioning body based out of Milwaukee.

Lemirande, a former modified competitor at the track and many time feature winner, muscled his way to the front on the first lap of the 20-lap late model race and that was all it took.  Moving under polesitter Scott Specht before the first yellow waved, Lemirande set himself up for a clean run to
the checkered flag.

"On a slick track like we had here tonight the late model is a lot easier to drive," said Lemirande.  "The modified is tough when the track is smooth and hard.  The late model you can really make work."

And he did.  He pulled away from the field and left the rest of the 18-car field in the dust.  Pulling away steadily, and not slowed by another yellow, Lemirande was in control to the checkered flag.

Chris Carlson finished in the second spot followed by Jim Zdroik, Kerry Hansen, and Russ Scheffler.  The second five included Terry Anvelink, Tom Naeyaert, Scott Specht, M.J. Hintz, and Tim Buhler.

McGrath was the world beater in the 20-lap modified main as he topped Jay Schraufnagel, something that appeared to be impossible.  For McGrath the run was simple - start up front and stay up front.

McGrath would lead every lap of the race and, without any yellow flags, Schraufnagel, who started 13th after winning the first two features at the track this season in the division, could do no better than third at the finish.

Lee Sohns finished second with Benjamin Brinkman and Travis Spaulding rounding out the first five.

D.J. Rindt appeared to have the street stock main in his back pocket as the rookie would lead the first 15 laps but Schmidt came on strong at the end to take home the win.

Rindt held on to finish in the runner-up spot over Scott Solomon, Jerry Kope, and Adam Pugh.  Kope would slide across the line backwards after contact on the final lap but was scored in the position.

Klawitter led every lap of the Dirt Devil feature race.  Several yellow flags slowed the race but Klawitter held off all challengers.  Jasper Drengler of Shawano finished second over Pat Klawitter, Mike Mueller, and Ron Koenig.
