Powercom Speed Zone Now On Highway 76 After Wisconsin DOT Changes
2004 Rule Books Are Available

December 19, 2003

OSHKOSH, WI - There will be one major change that fans and drivers of the Powercom Speed Zone will have to get accustomed to for the coming 2004 season that track officials had nothing to do with as the Wisconsin Department of Transportation has adjusted some names of highways in the area leaving the track’s location now on State Highway 76.

“The track didn’t move nor did the expo grounds,” said Wisconsin Motorsports General Manager Rex Melius.  “The only thing different for fans and drivers coming to the Speed Zone via Highway 41 is that you now exit on Highway 76.  Highway 45 has been moved to the exit south of where the track is.  It may be a little confusing to start the season but it shouldn’t be a big deal.”

The 2004 racing season at the Powecom Speed Zone kicks off on Tuesday night, May 4th with the Karavan Trailer Sales Icebreaker 75 featuring the track’s main four divisions - modifieds, street stocks, grand nationals, and the Dirt Devils.  A full program including 75 laps of feature racing will take place that night.  The green flag will fall on the first event at 7:00 pm.

“We continue to field call after call about racing not only in Oshkosh but at Powercom Park here in Beaver Dam,” Melius said of the busy off-season.  “I think so far this winter we have had more calls from drivers and fans regarding the next racing year than any other in the past.  It’s a sign of good things to come, I think.

“The main thing about the highway change in Oshkosh is that the track is still in the same spot.  We know it can be a little confusing but there was nothing we could do about the change.  Just remember its Highway 76 now and not Highway 45.”

Wisconsin Motorsports officials have also announced the formation of new website for the two tracks at www.wismotorsports.net.  The site has just been developed and will be updated constantly throughout the winter heading into the 2004 season.

The new website has a complete set of rules for the 2004 season listed.  Drivers are asked to check there for the latest updates.  Rulebooks are also available from the Wisconsin Motorsports main office.  A fee will be charged for shipping the books out.

"I guess the best part about the new website is that we have all the rules on there about the coming season and people are able to get to them when they want," Melius said.  "One of my goals was to get the rule book done and set so there was enough time for the drivers to get their cars ready.  We have done that and by having it on the website it is there for everyone."

Highway 45 has become what used to be the Highway 110 exit in Oshkosh.  The track’s location is just off of Highway 41 on Highway 76, three miles north of town.  For more information contact the track office at (920) 887-1600 or visit the new website at www.wismotorsports.net
