INEX Legends Add To Another Week Of Exciting Racing – Week 9

August 6th, 2003
By: Cresta Buss

For the third time this season at The PowerCom Speedzone in Oshkosh, WI, the INEX Legends made an appearance.  The Legends and the other five classes of racing had a very fast race track and some treacherous corners during the night.  Victor Duket went for a wild ride in his heat in the Modified division, rolling his car and landing on the roof going into turn 1.  He crawled out of his car in good condition but his car had extensive damage.  He, however, made it into the B-Main event after some major work in the pits.  The 37 car of Bill Genz also went on a wild ride. After spinning in turn 2 in the American Auto Stocks Feature event, Genz was unable to steer the car and ended in the turn 3 wall causing heavy damage to his car and to the wall, breaking it in half.  Genz emerged from his car unhurt and did not return to the race.

The first feature of the night was the INEX Legends.  When the green flag dropped, Aaron Rake took the lead.  Keith Moline, Lane Swearinger, Chris Springer and Warren Ropp all battled it out in a cluster down the back stretch for the second position.  Moline finally emerged and made his way to the front to overtake Rake for the first position out of turn 4 on the third lap.  Eric Barth was on the move as he made his way to front to battle for the fourth position.  Springer was on the move near the front as he and Rake made there way into turn 2 and went side by side for the second position.  Springer was the victor in that battle and maintained that position throughout the race.  Half way through the race, Barth stretched his lead to half the track and would coast to the first position as the checkered flag dropped.  Springer held on to second, Moline placed third, Ropp was fourth and Falcon Smith moved up to take the fifth position at the checkered flag.

In the Grand National division, Andy Fuhrmann took the lead out of the shoot but Tom Robbins was right behind eying up the first position.  Robert Cullen took the second position from Robbins in turn 4 of lap 2 and moved on to battle with Fuhrmann for the first position.  In the middle of the pack, Tim Doehling was having a three way battle with Brian Gilles and Keith Schommer for the third position.  Cullen and Fuhrmann continued to battle throughout the race when Fuhrmann got underneath the Doehling once again for the second position.  At the halfway point in the race, Cullen went to the outside of Fuhrmann and took over the lead on the front stretch.  With one lap to go, Cullen and Fuhrmann were side by side all the way around the track until turn 4 when Cullen took the lead by a bumper.  At the checkered flag, Cullen placed first, Fuhrmann second, Doehling third, Schommer fourth and Brian Gilles rounded out the fifth position.

In the Hobby Stock division, Bob Voight got out to an early lead but relinquished his lead on lap six to Nathan Persha.  Persha was second until lap six following behind Voight for most of the race.  Korey Krupp and Lance Achterberg fought for the third position with Rick Long, splitting Long on the inside and outside on turn 2.  Persha coasted his way to the first position as the checkered fell with Voight right behind in second, Krupp placing third, Achterberg in fourth and Ross Losse rounding out the fifth position.

In the American Auto Sales Stocks division, David Madell Jr. took the lead with Cory Friday right beside him around turns 1 and 2.  Madell emerged as the leader in that battle.  Jason Kienast was in third with a clump of drivers, Mike Rauchle, Adam Pugh and Scott Solomon, on his tail. Near the front of the pack, there were many battles going on for various positions throughout the night.  Dave Averkamp was making his way to the lead battling it out with Dale Averkamp for the fifth position.  On lap 4, Cory Friday worked his way to become the new leader with Pugh following behind for the third position.  A long caution on the track would allow some drivers to gain their composer and be ready to once again battle there way to the lead.  Friday would again stay the leader when the green flag fell once again but Madell wanted the first position and tried to work down low around turn 2.  Friday maintained the lead.  Another caution on the track would once again bring a restart and would allow Madell to take over the lead.  Dave Averkamp made his way to second on the restart and would then battle with Madell for the lead.  Dave Averkamp emerged the leader and Dale Averkamp would make his way into the second position passing Madell and Friday.  As the checkered flag fell, Dave Averkamp took the first place position, Madell regained second, Dale Averkamp placed third, Frank Foremiller made his way from the middle of the pack to place fourth and Cory Friday fell to fifth position.

In the Dirt Devil A-Main event, Loren Rangeloff led the race throughout the night but felt heat all the way through the race and held off other contenders for the first position.  Chris Cottrell moved up from the tenth position to take the third place position in just one lap.  He could not however, gain the first position.  Amanda Rangeloff, Dustin Schwandt and Mike Mueller battled in the middle of the pack for the fourth position.  Schwandt was the victor in that battle.  After some bumping and banging, Amanda Rangeloff had some bad luck with her car as she came to stop on the front stretch causing a caution.  After the race restarted, Loren Rangeloff emerged still in first with Cottrell hot on his trail.  Nick Rennhack moved up some positions to place third and battled it out with Cottrell for the second position as the checkered flag fell.  Loren Rangeloff placed first, Nick Rennhack battled to second, Cottrell placed third, Matt Hoge finished fourth and Dustin Schwandt rounded out the fifth position.

In the Suburban Motors Harley Davidson/Buell Modified Division, Dave Schneider took the lead as the green flag fell.  Brad Rohloff was right behind hot on Schneider’s trail.  There was a four way battle taking place right behind between Chad Rathke, Russell Reinwald, Nick Woods and Brian Drexler.  Nick Woods was the victor in that battle but right behind him came Travis Spaulding, who waited patiently for those four to battle and found an opening to move up to the third position from his starting tenth position.  Reinwald eventually moved up into the second position past Woods and Spaulding for the second position and then battled it out with Schneider, who was in the lead.  After a caution for debris on the track, Reinwald gained the first position and Nick Woods moved into second.  In the middle of the pack, half way through the race, Scott Mullen worked his way through to move into the fifth position from his twelfth position start.  Tim Lemirande eventually made his way through the pack as well and battled it out for the second position with Spaulding on lap fourteen.  As the checkered flag dropped, Reinwald was able to hold off the current point’s leader, Tim Lemirande, who placed second.  Travis Spaulding worked into third position, Scott Mullen ended with fourth and Jay Schraufnagel maneuvered his way into the fifth position.
