May 27, 2003
The PowerCom Speedzone produced some very exciting racing for fans on May 27th, 2003, in Oshkosh, WI. The 1/3 mile clay oval track was in perfect condition for nearly 100 cars registered in the pits and the weather wasn’t bad either.
In the Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson/Buell Modified A-main, a caution on lap 1, turn 4, caused Travis Spaulding to leave the race with heavy right front damage sending the field back to the restart. The restart caused another caution on Turn 1 leaving the two pole sitters, Dennis Krause and Nick Woods scrambling to get there cars back into the race. Jay Schraufnagel of Beaver Dam took the lead in lap 3 and remained there for the rest of the race taking the win for the second week in a row. Dan Miller and Tim Lemirande battled it out for the second and third spots as late pressure from the back of the pack caused another caution on Lap 12. After the restart, Tim Lemirande spun as the final laps went green, White, Checkered with Dan Miller in second, Jason Zdroik in third, Jim Zdroik in fourth and Mike Hansel in fifth.
In the Grand National Division, Terri Van Roy took the lead as Dan Nelson went high on the outside during lap 6. Van Roy maintained his lead throughout the rest of the race with Brian Gilles powering his way to second. Tim Doehling and Keith Schommer battled it out for third and fourth, respectively, between laps 11 and 13. Dan Nelson maintained his fifth position after he spun late in the race without causing a caution.
The American Auto Sales Stock Cars gave the crowd much excitement during the A-Main on Tuesday night. Ron Rauchle raced to the lead in the first lap with Gary Neau pressuring right behind. After a caution, Dale Averkamp took the lead as Dave Averkamp raced to second. Jerry Kope and Jeff Jahnke battled it out for third as Trevor Schmidt watched the battle from fourth position. Dale Averkamp drove on to finish in first with Dave Averkamp taking second. Jerry Kope battled it out for Third and Jeff Jahnke finished in fourth. Frank Foremiller rounded out the field in fifth position.
In the Quick Signs/Corporate Impressions Hobby Stock Division, DJ Rindt took the lead early in the race but Bob Voight powered his way back to take first place in the race in some very exciting racing action. DJ Rindt placed second after a tight battle up front. The rest of the pack was rounded out by Ken Nelson taking third, Rick Long powering his way to fourth and Korey Krupp maintaining fifth place throughout the race.
Chris Cottrell raced his way to first in the first lap in the Golf Central/Wingers/Jurassic Valley Dirt Devils A-Main and would cruise to an easy victory. After a few tangles and flat tires, the field straightened out with Aaron Stolp running a good race and finishing second, Jon Schultz racing to third, Jasper Drengler having a good run in the fourth position, and Dustin Schwandt rounding out fifth.
In the nights first action on the track, Modified heats were won by Dan Miller, Jay Schraufnagel, Brian Drexler and Tim Lemirande.
