Ascher Sweeps MSCS Win At Slinger

June 22, 2003 (Slinger, WI) – Scott Ascher (Sussex, WI) had little trouble winning the 40-lap main event for the Midwest Sportsman Championship Series Sunday night at Slinger Super Speedway. Standing point leader Josh Bauer (Random Lake, WI) turned quick time for the evening with a 12.650 second tour of the world's fastest paved quarter-mile; an average of over 71 miles per hour. Bob Hacker (Loves Park, IL) took the victory in the eight-lap dash over Bobby Gutknecht (Oak Creek, WI) and John Senerchia (Oak Forest, IL) won by nearly one quarter of the track in the semi-feature race.

In feature action, the pole position was held by Michael Anderson (Sheboygan, WI) with Ascher on the outside of the front row. Ascher took the early lead and led the field to the checkered flag. On lap thirteen Hacker, Anderson, and Gutknecht raced three-wide across the track, leaving all cars continuing forward but Anderson out of shape. The fist caution came out on lap 16 for the spun car of Todd Gehring. The field was straightened out and racing action continued until Senerchia slowed on the front straightaway coming off of turn four for mechanical failure on lap 25 and Jason Taghikhani (Franklin, WI) sailed into the slowed car from behind. At line on lap 40, it was Ascher, followed by Gutknecht, Bauer, Pat McIntee (West Bend, WI), and James Swan (Wonder Lake, IL) rounding out the top five. Series title contender Brandon Norris (Ottawa, IL) scratched after the dash, reporting engine problems.

The Midwest Sportsman Championship Series is now under a lengthy midseason break for the drivers to work on efforts at their home tracks. Action will continue August ninth at Lake Geneva Raceway for round six, followed by the seventh round at Slinger Super Speedway September sixth, and then head south of the Wisconsin border to Rockford Speedway (Illinois) to compete in the Short Track Nationals September 20-21.
