Wilmot, WI - Restarts were the name of the game Friday as Brian Kristan picked up his first Midwest Sprintcar Association Feature win at Wilmot Speedway. Brian Portschy continues to be the early season points leader adding slightly to his narrow lead in the standings.

In the feature, rookie Craig Scheffner jumped out to the early lead and did an impressive job of holding off the charge of Troy Hepfner.  The yellow flag waved as Hepfner suffered night ending damage to his car on the third lap.  With the return to green Scheffner attempted to hold off Kristan, but was unable to do so as Kristan bonzied around the top of turn one.

K.J. Skelton had quickly moved forward from his sixth row starting spot and by lap seven had worked his way up to third.  An unsuccessful attempt to pass Scheffner in the low groove caused contact between the two and ended Skelton's evening bringing out the yellow on the seventh lap.  The restart had Fassbender jumping out to the lead with Al Schlafer in tow as Kristan's car seemed to stumble pacing the field into turn four, Fassbender quickly opened up a lead.

The next restart for a lap ten debris on the track yellow was a spectacular battle for the lead as Al Schlafer swung around the outside of Fassbender while Kristan threw his mount past both Fassbender then Schlafer going in to turn one.   In the meantime, Scheffner, David O'Neal, Mike Kirtscher then Danny Schlafer were forced to the pits early with damage to their cars.

Kristan would go on to win the time shortened Feature with seventeen laps in the books, Fassbender would charge back to the second spot and Al Schlafer followed in third.  Scott Semmelman and Tim Haddy both did a great job of patiently picking their way forward from deep in the field to round out the top five.

Finishing sixth was Scott Kuxhouse, followed by Chris Wiser, John Fahl and Joe Pantley.  Mark Schleicher picked up the KSE Hard Charger Award advancing ten spots to finish tenth.  The finish closed up the points chase battle with just 36 points separating the top four in the standings.

In the Triton Trailers B-Main, the red flag was waving with just two laps in for Tony Wondra as his car clipped another in tight traffic.  Wondra's car cartwheeled about three times before coming to a stop in turn two, Wondra was not injured.  With the return to action it looked as though 2004 MSA Rookie Of the Year Rob Pribnow would hold off the hard charge of Al Schlafer, but Pribnow suffered a nose wing problem that sent him to the pits on lap six.

Al Schlafer would go on to win the B-Main. Hepfner, after suffering front axle damage in his heat race, picked his way from deep in the field to finish second.  Rounding out the top six advancing to the A-Main were Mark Wernes Jr., Schleicher, Chad Tessman, and Jim Lukey.

In the Hepfner Race Products first heat, Fassbender quickly advanced from deep in the field to comfortably take his first Heat win of the season.  Haddy crossed the line second.  The second heat, sponsored by JB Enterprises, had Kenny Griffey holding off the charge of Semmelman to take the checkers, Semmelman finished second.

Skelton handily won the MPD Racing Products third heat with Wiser giving chase.

The Racing Optics sponsored fourth heat was green to checker O'Neal with Kristan taking the runner up spot.

Kristan established a Wilmot Speedway record for the MSA and took fast time with a lap of 14.653 seconds.  Next week Saturday June 18th, the MSA will appear at Sheboygan County Fairpark.  For all of the latest standings, results, pictures and more, visit the MSA website at www.msasprints.com
