MSA Takes on Monster Hall Raceway
Midwest Sprintcar Association
June 20, 2004
By George Baumann
Unity, WI - If Lloyd Dykstra has a favorite track it must be Monster Hall
Raceway. The Waupun driver won his second career MSA A-main, and like the
first it came on the high-banked third mile track.
Dykstra's flawless run began from the fifth starting spot and nearly ended on
the first lap. His car and that of Tim Haddy made contact coming off turn four
sending Haddy's car to the pits for the night, but Dykstra was able to
continue.
Johnny Fahl paced the race early and appeared to be very fast from his pole
position start. The yellow wave waved on lap 7 when Jerry Ski and Scott Sippel
tangled between turns one and two with David O'Neal spinning to avoid them.
The race then stayed green throughout, and Fahl held the lead until lap ten
when Dykstra passed him off turn four using the track's high groove.
Once in front, Dykstra stayed there and held off several later challenges from
Fahl.
Meanwhile back in the pack, MSA defending champion Doug Schenck went to work
from his tenth starting position. Despite dropping back a position early,
Schenck made a charge and caught Fahl by lap 19. While they waged an exciting
dual for second, Dykstra pulled ahead to a four or five car-length lead and
cruised to victory lane.
Other drivers with strong runs were Chris Wiser who finished nine positions
ahead of his last place starting spot. Jeff Becker and Lance Fassbender each
moved ahead eight spots. K.J. Skelton, 19-year old rookie Ribbie Pribnow, and
Chad Tessman each finished seven positions better than their starting spots.
In heat race action, Skelton won his 51st career MSA race in the first heat
with Al Schlafer coming in second. The second heat was won by Fahl who passed
Keith Olejnik on the last lap spoiling a solid run by Olejnik.
The third heat race went to Danny Schlafer who lead the distance ahead of
Jerry Ski and Schenck.
In qualifying Schenck was quick with a lap of 14.019.
It was the seventh appearance by MSA at MHR and Dykstra is now the only driver
with two A-main wins at the facility.
