MSA Busy In The Off Season

Wisconsin's Midwest Sprintcar Association has spent the winter putting
together a fifth season that is looking to be the biggest yet. President Al Schlafer
has been working very hard bringing on board two more major sponors, as well as
putting together the largest schedule in MSA history.
The MSA is pleased to announce the sponsorship of Advance Auto Parts with 19
locations in Wisconsin and the #1 auto parts site on the Internet. Another
major supporter of the MSA will be The Golf Club at Camelot which features a
challenging 18 hole public course and banquet facilities, located in Lomira.
With the 2003 season, the MSA looks to the schedule as a touring club.
Schlafer has currently in the cue about 31 shows at 11 different venues. New to the
2003 schedule will be an appearance at Grant Count Speedway in Lancaster, as well
as a return to Manitowoc County Expo Speedway in Manitowoc. The schedule is
still being firmed up as of this writing, visit the website for the latest
scheduling information.
Look for the car counts to increase from the 2002 average of 36 cars, with
the addition of at least six new drivers bringing the roster count to about 60
drivers. In a special appearance, Winston Cup champion Tony Stewart will be
appearing in a MSA sprint car on Wednesday August 6th at Sheboygan County
Fairpark in Plymouth. Stewart will take on MSA defending champion K.J.
Skelton at Skelton's home track as well as the rest of the MSA field.
A strong showing was made by the MSA at the 2003 Wisconsin Auto Sports Show.
Cars appearing were the #9a of Andy Hunt, the debut of #70 Ryan Tessman, #26
of Al Schlafer, #32w of Troy Wondra, #22 of Mark Wernes Jr. and the #25 of
Danny Schlafer. Also making it's debut was the Monte Carlo Pace Vehicle.
The MSA has formalized the position of MSA Director of Public Relations,
with Jay Ohman accepting the role. Ohman's roots with the 360 Sprint group go
back to 1996 as crew chief for the Jeff Ohman Sprint Car team, and has been
involved with the MSA in various capacities for the last several years. Ohman looks
ahead to the challenge of familiarizing new and existing fans with the
excitement of the MSA.
