MIS Announces 2007 Schedule
by John Wells
Monday, January 15, 2007 (Oregon, WI) An action-packed schedule of weekly
racing and special events is on tap for the 2007 racing season at Madison
International Speedway. "This is going to be a big year at
Madison. We've put together a great schedule with many popular events
from last year returning along with some exciting new ones," said MIS
promoter Dave Grueneberg. "We've listened to the drivers and the
fans and we feel this schedule is definitely a winner."
The 2007 season opener is set for Sunday, May 6th when the Wisconsin Challenge
Series comes to MIS.
Weekly Racing
Friday night excitement gets the green flag on May 11th and will feature three
weekly divisions in 2007. The Madison Late Models, Limited Late Models,
and Bandits will be racing weekly this season along with a fourth
division. "We really want to establish three very solid classes and
keep the car counts up and attract the best drivers to race with us
weekly," noted Grueneberg. The Madison Late Models and Limited Late
Models will race on the half-mile with the Bandits taking to the quarter mile.
The Madison Late Models will once again feature excellent car counts from week
to week. Bobby Wilberg of Orfordville, Wisconsin, has won back to back
track championships in the division. Although only racing six times in
2006, the Limited Late Models will see much more action in 2007.
"The fans love the limited lates and there are many of these cars within
fifty miles of the speedway. We are looking forward to have them racing
with us more often this season," said Grueneberg. Jeremy Miller of
Rockton, Illinois, won the division last season. Beginning their second
year at MIS on the quarter mile will be the four cylinder Bandits. "We
are expecting the car counts to continue to grow in this division. It is
a true entry level division with a diverse group of drivers," noted
Grueneberg. Fifteen year old Tyler Kelley of Oregon, Wisconsin, took
home the 2006 track championship.
The fourth weekly division will rotate between Legends, Bandoleros, Trucks,
Hobby Stocks, and possibly other divisions. "We are still
finalizing plans on some of our "guest" divisions," added
Grueneberg.
Grueneberg also voiced his commitment to the weekly racing program by saying,
"We want to really commit to our weekly racers. We want to see them
be as successful as possible when they come to MIS."
Special Events
One of the Midwest's top short track racing events of the season will be at
MIS in 2007 with the First Supply All Star Challenge on Tuesday, June 26th
featuring Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart. Last year's race won by Kelly
Bires of Mauston, Wisconsin, was witnessed by nearly 10,000 fans. This
year's race will be a super late model event.
Besides the All Star Challenge there will be five super late model races at
MIS this season.
The Wisconsin Challenge Series will be at Madison for the season opener on
Sunday, May 6th and on Friday, September 7th. "The WCS will bring a
great field of cars to Madison and racing fans know that it will be a very
competitive and talented field," said Grueneberg.
The newly formed ASA Midwest Tour will be at Madison on Friday, July 20th.
MIS will also be hosting a 100 lap super late model event on Friday, August
3rd.
The ASA Late Model Series Northern Division will be in action on Saturday,
July 7th.
Also returning in 2007 will be the USAR Hooters Pro Cup who will be at Madison
on Saturday, May 26th.
Announcing the 2007 MIS Fall Classic
Promoter Dave Grueneberg has announced that MIS will be hosting a Fall Classic
on September 21st and 22nd. As many as ten divsions are expected to do
battle in what is certain to become an annual event. "It's been
talked about by drivers and fans for many years. This year we decided to
put it together and are very excited about the potential for this to become a
major event in the midwest."
Fans and drivers should monitor the Madison International Speedway for updates
regarding the Fall Classic.
More Fun at MIS
This year will also feature a variety of special racing events on the quarter
mile. Back again in 2007 will be the Faster Pastor Night where area
pastors will have an opportunity to get on the track. Area disc jockeys
and sports broadcasters will also have their chance to battle it out on the
track with their own special events.
Special racing events also include a train race and trailer race.
"We really want to put together a racing program that the entire family
will enjoy. These will add to the excitement," said Grueneberg.
Two spectacular fireworks programs are schedule for June 22nd and September
7th.
The Turn Four Kids Club will be bigger and better than ever in 2007 with many
activities planned including some on-track action.
