A Message from Dave Grueneberg

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the drivers, their crews, sponsors, and fans who supported Madison International Speedway in 2006. It was great to see so many familiar faces with us each and every week along with the many new drivers and teams who had an opportunity to race with us.

The 2006 season brought many changes to the track highlighted by the installation of the quarter mile. All of us at MIS appreciate everyone's patience during the construction of the new track. The quarter mile brought with it some very exciting racing in 2006.

In an on-going effort to make Madison International Speedway the best racing facility for drivers and fans alike we will continue to make changes.

Several important decisions will be made within the next sixty days. First, we will be determining which divisions will be racing weekly at MIS in 2007.  Second, we will be putting together a tentative racing schedule for next season. We feel that in the best interest of all of our race teams this decision be made as soon as possible.

If any of you have any comments about the 2006 racing season or suggestions for the future, please email me at misdaveg@yahoo.com.  I look forward to hearing from you.

I am excited about what lies ahead for Madison International Speedway in 2007 and beyond.

Sincerely,

Dave Grueneberg

Attention Drivers and Teams:

Please email us with your plans during the off season. We want to keep the fans abreast of your plans as well as promote any off season appearances you will be making.

In 2007 we will be adding a driver profile page to our website that highlights the drivers, teams, and their sponsors.

We are here to promote your experience at MIS.

Banquet News

As soon as plans are finalized for the MIS Banquet we will be passing that information on to you.

Tribute to America Night at MIS

A big thank you to the 147th Aviation Battalion of the Wisconsin Army National Guard based out of Madison for their support of Tribute to America Night at MIS.

The 147th AVN has been extremely active in all parts of the world. Heretofore they were involved in hurricane relief in Guatemala for six months in 1999, deployed for thirteen months in Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2000, deployed in 2002 to Iraq for twelve months in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and in 2005 were deployed to Egypt in support of Operation Bright Star and at the same time part of the unit assisted with search and rescue for the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Part of the 147th is currently in Kosovo for eighteen months.

The Blackhawk helicopter at the races on Friday night was flown by pilots Chief Warrant Officer Leif Mikkelson and Warrant Officer Billy Dart. Crewchiefs on board were Sergeant Greg Fawver and Sergeant Pete Flood. All four are veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Passengers on the Blackhawk were members of the Wisconsin Army and Air National Guard and have been deployed to many of the locations listed above in addition to two members who are veterans of the Vietnam War.

The flag was presented by Chief Warrant Officer Timothy Salzwedel. He served with the 3rd Marine Division during Vietnam and also the 1158th based in Monroe when they were deployed to Iraq during Desert Storm. He has recently served with the 264th Engineer Group based out of Chippewa Falls and served in Iraq.  The American Flag flying over MIS on Friday night was flown by his units in both Vietnam and twice in Iraq.

Veterans honored on Friday night included Major Patrick Beyer who served with the 264th Engineer during Iraqi Freedom, Senior Master Sergeant Rod Tippery who served in the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing during Vietnam, Staff Sergeant Cara Buttefield who is currently serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Staff Sergeant Bryan Douglas who served during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Sergeant Amy Jensen who served with the Army's 32nd Signal Brigade during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Specialist Sunny Sandstrom from the 1-128th Infantry Battalion who served during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

All of us at Madison International Speedway are extremely thankful of the efforts of all of our veterans both past and present and wish to thank the 147th for helping us make this program possible.

Wisconsin Challenge Series Bryden Motors 100...A Classic

Congratulations to West Salem's Steve Carlson who captured the win in the Bryden Motors WCS 100 on Friday night. It was a wild and crazy finish with the leaders getting together and opening up the door for Carlson. Read all about it on our website or contact Jake Roth at miraclevideo@msn.com to purchase a video of the evening's events. It just goes to prove that in racing as in life it's not over till it's over!

Forty-two WCS super late models were on hand including several drivers who had never been to Wisconsin's Track of Champions before.

The WCS is a great racing series and it's always fun to have some time to talk to Jeff Sachse.

Other Notes of Interest

Dan Gilster of West Salem really makes the most of his trips to MIS as he won for the second time in two appearances. Shaun Scheel jumped in his Bandits car and picked up the win in their abberviated feature.  The LGR Super Stocks who are looking for a home in 2007 were on hand with Tom Roney winning in his first ever visit to MIS.

Thanks Jim Steinke and Todd Christopherson

A special thank you to Jim Steinke and Todd Christopherson for taking racing notes the past two Friday nights while I was in Monroe doing play by play broadcasts of high school football on WEKZ AM 1260 and world wide on the internet at www.wekz.com

Thunder Cat Fireworks Does It Again

These guys are incredible...enough said!  Unfortunately the timing of the rain came right before the fireworks but these guys still were able to set up and close out the 2006 season with an awesome fireworks display. Most of the fans either came back to the bleachers or watched from their cars.

How will they top this performance in 2007?

Get Well Chuck West

Most of you have probably seen Chuck West around Madison International Speedway each and every week.  Chuck is the coordinator of the Turn Four Kids Club including being the person responsible for bringing the bounce house to MIS. Chuck is currently undergoing medical procedures at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Chuck as we all join in saying "Get Well Chuck."

The Chaplain's Corner
by Todd Christopherson

Wow what a way to end the year at MIS. That was a great race! I felt bad for Nathan and Dave, but I am thankful to the Lord that they were not hurt.

As I think about the end of the year and Travis last week I am reminded that we need to be ready for the end of our life and we need to finish well.

Travis lead the points a long time. We can lead a 'good' life and not be in the right way with God. See, our 'good' is not good enough for heaven. Only Jesus and His payment is good enough. So we have to surrender to Him and then live the 'good' out because we love Him. Hard stuff to understand and I would be happy to explain it more some day with you.

As we head into the off-season I just want to remind you if I can be of help just give me a call {608-846-8493} or shot me an e mail torch_for_jesus@yahoo.com

One more thing. Monday was 9/11 and we need to remember that 5 years ago was a horrible day in American history. I would hope that today we each would spend some time thanking a soldier and praying and thanking God for this great country and the freedom we have here. Thanks to all who serve and have served the USA forces.

From all of us at MIS we would like to thank Todd for all of his efforts at the speedway and his MIS E-News contributions. You can look forward to Todd's column during the off season editions of the E-News.

Enjoy the off season and be sure to catch some of the end of the season specials throughout the region.

Suggestion box is always open. Email me at mismedia2@yahoo.com.
