Saving The Best For Last: Tribute To America This Friday At MIS
Sunday, September 3, 2006 (Oregon, WI) - This Friday night (September 8) marks
the final race on the 2006 Madison International Speedway schedule and track
officials are making sure that it will be a night to remember. Friday
will mark the fourth annual "Tribute to America Night" presented by
Bryden Motors with a full slate of action both on and off the track.
Highlighting the racing action will be the return of the super late models and
the second appearance in 2006 by the Wisconsin Challenge Series.
"We are expecting a very competitive field of super late models to be at
MIS this Friday night. Their car counts have been outstanding all year
long and we expect to see close to fifty cars or more this Friday," said
promoter Steve Einhaus. The Wisconsin Challenge Series raced at MIS in
May with Sun Prairie's Dave Feiler topping the field of nearly sixty
cars. "I think fans are going to see one of the best races of the
season this Friday night. It's the perfect way to close out the 2006
season," added MIS general manager Dave Grueneberg.
The Area Sportsman will also be competing this Friday but not on their normal
track. "We are moving the Sportsman to the half-mile for Tribute to
America. A lot of the guys have been asking for this and we are excited
about seeing them back on the big track," said Einhaus who indicated that
he has fielded calls from throughout the region from drivers interested in
coming to MIS. "Previously the Sportsman raced on the half-mile so
this won't be a new experience for most of the guys." The Sportsman
will be competing in a thirty lap feature.
Despite the move to the half-mile by the Area Sportsman, the quarter mile will
be far from quiet on Friday night. Battling it out on the quarter mile will be
the four cylinder Bandits and a first ever visit from the LGR Super
Stocks. Einhaus added, "The Super Stocks are losing their home
track at the end of this season and we wanted to give them an opportunity to
come here and race. We already have heard from over twenty cars and are
expecting more. They are going to have a thirty lap feature and it
should be fun to see who can adapt to the short track since nearly all of the
drivers will be making their MIS debut." The Bandits will be
running a thirty lap feature as well.
MIS will also be taking time to recognize our area veterans. As
part of the tribute, a Blackhawk helicopter will be landing in the infield
with several military veterans on board. Among the veterans will be Chief
Warrant Officer 2 Timothy Salzwedel. Salzwedel served in Vietnam, Desert
Storm, and most recently, Iraq. Salzwedel will be presenting the American flag
during pre-race ceremonies. Major Patrick Beyer, who served with the Wisconsin
based 264th Engineer Group during Iraqi Freedom, will be addressing the crowd.
The National Guard will also have several displays set up around the speedway.
Fans will also be treated to a very special event that has drawn recognition
for the track from throughout the midwest. Thundercat Fireworks will be
putting on a spectacular fireworks show for the fans. "These guys seem to
outdo themselves each time they come to MIS. If fans have not seen their
show before they are in for a real "Bang", noted Einhaus.
"This is a must see show for the fans. We hope everyone comes out
and honors our veterans on Friday night. The racing action is going to
be great and fans will definitely get their money's worth," concluded
Grueneberg.
