Wilberg, Naumann, Ehrhart And Padfield Victorious At MIS On Werner Electric Night

Friday, July 14, 2006 (Oregon, WI) - Bobby Wilberg, David Naumann, Chris Ehrhart, and Rory Padfield won feature victories tonight at Madison International Speedway as part of Werner Electric Night.   For Wilberg, the defending Madison ASA Late Model Champion, the victory was his second of the 2006 season while the other three were first time winners this season.

Wilberg won the fifty lap feature for the Weaver Auto Parts Madison ASA Late Models.  “This car’s been good for us especially the past three weeks,” said the Orfordville, Wisconsin, driver from victory lane.

Twenty-four Weaver Auto Parts Madison ASA Late Models were paced to the green flag by Matt Byrne and Beau Bavery.

Byrne, who was back after an absence of several weeks due to a previous accident, showed a lot of early speed and by lap six had opened up a three car length advantage over Bavery only to spin coming out of turn four on lap four to bring out the first caution.  This would move Bavery to the point followed by point leader Travis Sauter.

Bavery continued to lead before Sauter got by on the inside coming down the backstretch on lap twelve with Troy Hintzsche and Andrew Morrissey motoring by Bavery one lap later.  Jason Tyler and Bobby Wilberg were able to crack the top five one lap later.

Sauter quickly built a solid ten car length advantage over the field before the caution flag came out on lap twenty five for a spin on the backstretch setting up for an exciting double file restart.  Bobby Wilberg chose to move up to the outside of the second row alongside Morrissey.  However, the restart led to another caution one lap later for a backstretch incident.

On the restart Wilberg made a bold move to the inside of Sauter coming out of turn two to take the lead. Wilberg opened up a seven car length advantage as Sauter and Morrissey fought it out for second followed by Tyler and Ryan Carlson.  On lap thirty-nine Morrissey took over second with Tyler getting by Sauter one lap later.  On lap forty-two Carlson powered by Sauter for fourth.

Out front Wilberg continued to hold down his lead over Morrissey and looked like he was on his way to the win when a spin in front of the leaders on lap forty-seven brought out the caution.  Fortunately for Wilberg he was able to avoid the spinning car, but the spin would close the gap between himself and the field and set up for an exciting finish.

Wilberg was able to increase his lead over the field after the green flag waved again and cruised to his second feature win of the season.  Following Wilberg at the stripe were Morrissey, Tyler, Carlson, and Sauter.

Fast time was set by Nick Hammer.  Heat races were won by Jon Minor, Shane Morrissey, Beau Bavery, and Zack Riddle.  The twenty lap last chance race was won by Tom Gille.

“It’s great to be here,” said a jubilant David Naumann from victory lane following his Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Model feature win.

The twelve car field was led to the green flag of their twenty-five lap feature by Brady Liddle and Cliff Rucks.  Liddle quickly jumped to the point followed by David Naumann and Beau Sanden.  On lap four Naumann powered by Liddle and opened up a four car length advantage over his fellow competitors before the caution flag came out on lap five for fluid on the track.

Naumann continued to lead following the restart with Sanden in second and a fast closing Bill Baumeister in third.  By lap eleven Jeremy Miller was right on Baumeister’s bumper for third.  Baumeister was able to hold off Miller for the time being and found himself in second when he passed Sanden on lap fourteen with both Miller and Bobby Wilberg getting by Sanden one lap later.

Meanwhile, Naumann continued to increase his lead over the field with Miller and Wilberg fighting it out for second behind him.  But this race was all Naumann’s as he held off the field to pick up his first feature win of the season.  Rounding out the top five were Miller, Wilberg, Baumeister, and Sanden.

Jeremy Miller was the fast qualifier with Jeff Steenbergen and Bobby Wilberg taking home the checkered flag in the heat races.

Chris Ehrhart took advantage of his front row starting position to win his first ever Bryden Motors Area Sportsman feature.  “I had a great starting position and ran the low line,” said Ehrhart in a post race interview.

Ehrhart and Shaun Scheel brought the eight car Area Sportsman field to the green flag in their twenty-five lap feature.  The early advantage went to Ehrhart with Randy Padfield up to second and Ryan Goldade in third.  On lap seven Goldade got by Padfield for second with Scott Riedner right behind.  One lap later Scott Lawver was up to join the three car battle for second.

On lap sixteen Goldade drifted up the track coming out of turn two which moved Riedner into second and Lawver to third.

By lap twenty-two Riedner had cut Ehrhart’s advantage to one car length and did everything he could to get by Ehrhart  but was unable to make the pass despite a valiant effort on the last lap.  Rounding out the top five were Lawver, Goldade, and Padfield.

Scott Riedner and Scott Lawver were heat race winners.

Rory Padfield may have appeared to finish second behind Kyle Stark in the twenty lap Roto Rooter Bandit feature, but he would be declared the winner after Stark was disqualified when his car failed post race inspection.

Aaron Reeve and Brandon Skolaski brought the fourteen car Bandit field to the green flag in their twenty lap feature.  From his second row starting position, Rodger Stephenson, making his Bandit debut, vaulted to the lead.  Stephenson sprinted away from the field before the caution came out on lap five for a front stretch incident.

Stephenson continued to lead with Kyle Stark up to the second after the waving of the green flag only to have the caution flag to come out shortly afterwards for a spin.  This time Tyler Kelley and Rodney Mundt would take advantage of the double file restart and move up to the outside of row two and three respectively.

After the restart it would be Stark who would take over the lead on lap nine with Rory Padfield up to challenge the leader. Padfield gave Stark everything he could handle but would be unable to get by him as Stark took home the win in his first points race of the season in the Bandits.  Following Stark and Padfield were Kelley, Stephen Scheel, and Stephenson.

Stark failed post race inspection and the win was awarded to Padfield.

Winning the heat races were Rodney Mundt and Rory Padfield.
