Riddle Picks Up First Victory At MIS
Friday, July 7, 2006 (Oregon, WI) - Zack Riddle of Brooklyn picked up his
first career feature win at Madison International Speedway by taking home the
checkered flag in the 40 lap Weaver Auto Parts ASA Lat e Model feature on
Construction Labor Management Night. Also coming home winners in their
respective divisions were Johnny Robinson II in the Club La Mark Hobby Stocks
and the father-son duo of Scott and Kyle Riedner in the Bryden Motors Area
Sportsman and Roto Rooter Bandits.
Troy Hintzsche and Nate Oppliger paced the field of twenty two ASA Late Models
to the green flag with Hintzsche jumping out to the early lead.
Hintzsche led the first six circuits until the first caution flag waved on lap
seven. This made for some interesting decisions as the double file
restart made its debut tonight.
Hintzsche continued to lead after the restart with Nick Hammer and Jason Tyler
up to challenge until they made contact in turn four on lap 16 bringing out
the caution and sending both to the rear of the field.
Another restart and another caution as the yellow waved again for a spin
sending the cars of Bavery and Nate Haseleu to the rear. This time
Riddle would move up to the second position followed by Jesse Saunders, Tom
Gille, and Dan Lensing. Three laps later another spin brought out the
caution with Hintzsche still holding onto the top spot for the time being.
On lap 21 Riddle would get down low and get by Hintzsche for the lead and
despite two more cautions and some reshuffling behind him would continue to
hold the point. By lap 30 Riddle’s lead was up to six car lengths with
Travis Sauter starting to close the gap.
Riddle continued to maintain his advantage as Sauter gave it everything he had
but could not get by Riddle who held on for a 0.19 second victory
margin. Rounding out the top five behind Riddle and Sauter were Andrew
Morrissey, Tyler, and Gille.
Heat races were won by Aaron Phillips, Jon Minor, and Shane Morrissey.
The last chance race was won by Jaime Dorsey. Jesse Saunders set fast
time with a lap of 18.190.
Scott Riedner won his fourth feature of the season in the Bryden Motors Area
Sportsman division by topping a field of eleven cars in their 25 lap event.
Chris Ehrhart took the early lead and quickly built up a solid advantage over
his fellow competitors. By lap 5 Carey Hensel was a distant second with
Riedner and Randy Padfield up to challenge him for the second spot.
Ehrhart continued to lead but his advantage was diminishing with each lap as
Riedner, who had moved up to second on lap seven, was slowly but surely
dialing him in. By lap seventeen the two were side by side with Riedner
taking command one lap later.
The yellow flag came out for a spin on lap twenty and the field behind the
leader chose an inside or outside postion with Ken Scott moving up to take the
outside spot in row two. Following the restart a good battle ensued
between Ryan Goldade, Ehrhart, and Scott Lawver for second with Goldade
eventually winning out. However, Riedner was simply too fast and would
cruise to victory followed by Goldade, Lawver, Ehrhart, and Hensel.
Ken Scott and Ryan Goldade, a pair of #39 cars, were victorious in the heat
races.
Fifteen year old Kyle Rieder was not about to outdone by his dad as he also
found his way to victory lane in the twenty lap feature for the Roto Rooter
Bandits.
The fourteen car Roto Rooter Bandit field was led to the green flag by Jody
Schmidt and Brandon Skolaski. However, Tyler Kelley showed the most
speed and by the completion of one lap had already taken the lead and was
building up a solid distance between himself and the rest of the field.
By lap 4 Stephen Scheel and Steve Dickson were up to second and third with
Kelley still holding a sizable margin out front. On lap 11 the caution
flag came out which negated Kelley’s lead and brought Riedner up to second.
The door opened wide for Riedner when Kelley drifted up the track coming out
of turn two and Riedner took over the top position. Riedner began to
build up a slight lead but Kelly refused to give up. Despite Kelley’s
efforts to get back the lead, he would be unable to do so as Riedner sailed on
to victory. Kelley finished second followed by Rory Padfield, Alex
Jones, and Stephen Scheel.
Heat races were won by Kyle Riedner and Rory Padfield.
Johnny Robinson II was the big winner in the Club La Mark Hobby Stocks as he
topped a field of nine cars in their 20 lap feature.
An early caution allowed Robinson to move up to the outside of row two and he
wasted no time in moving by Nick Newton for the lead. Robinson would
never really be challenged other than having to maneuver his way through
lapped traffic enroute to his victory.
Kyle Stark battled hard to move his way up to finish second but just would not
have enough time to catch the leader. Following Robinson and Stark
at the finish were Mike Storkson, Nick Newton, and Dennis Smith Jr.
Mike Storkson and Alex Papini won the heat races.
