MIS E-News
Week of July 3, 2006
by John Wells
Important Announcements from MIS
1. Beginning this Friday MIS has instituted a 1 tire rule for the ASALM
Division.
2. Beginning this Friday MIS will use Double File restarts for all divisions.
According to Steve Einhaus: "I was approached by the 1/4 mile divisions
to use "The Cone" and I thought it was a great idea to get more two
wide racing on the small track. It's been some of the best racing this year so
this may even take it one step farther. We proved last Tuesday that the double
file restarts for the ASALM event would make things more interesting and
better racing to watch for the fans. We have had some struggles with our
current tire in that division but we are trying to find ways to improve every
week."
Open Practice this Wednesday Night...4:00 to 8:00
Get Well John Wood
John Wood is still recovery from injuries he received when his #51 ASA Late

The Week in Review
What a busy week it was at Madison International Speedway!
Tuesday night's RK Race Promotions First Supply All Star Challenge saw one of
the largest crowds in the history of the speedway come to MIS. Close to 11,000
fans were on hand to see the Madison Late Models featuring Matt Kenseth and
Tony Stewart along with our very talented field of weekly drivers. Nearly
fifty drivers were on hand to try to make the twenty-nine car starting lineup.
Kelly Bires of Mauston made it two for two at MIS in 2006 when he won the All
Star Challenge 100. Matt Kenseth finished second while Tony Stewart, who
started nineteenth, finished eighth. Check out our website for a full race
report.
It's one of the special things about racing when the big time stars like Matt
and Tony come back to race at the weekly short tracks. It is things like this
that separate racing from other sports...I think it allows the fans to feel so
much more connected to the stars than other professional sports these days.
Steve Dickson won the thirty lap Bandit feature that saw a record number of
bandits (26) come to MIS. Action on the quarter mile is getting better and
better each week.
Media coverage was at an all-time high for an event at MIS. Coordinated by RK
Race Promotions' Kevin Ramsell, members of the press came from throughout the
midwest and beyond. The event was also carried live on ESPN Radio in Madison
with Tim Scott, Dennis Krause, and our very own Jeff Lockridge calling all of
the action.
Congrats go out to Kevin for pulling all of this together. Kevin also had the
opportunity to escort Leilani Munter when she was announced for the All Star
Challenge 100. The Fast Trax girls were also on hand for introductions.
Hats off to Roy Kenseth for putting together such an awesome show. Promoting
an event of this magnitude requires the involvement of so many people. It was
a true effort by all involved as everyone pitched in and helped wherever
necessary. Roy was even seen helping park cars!
Congratulations to our MIS staff for a job well done. Most of our weekly staff
have full-time jobs elsewhere so for many it meant getting off work early or
taking the day off to be able to be at the track.
Hey...I even had an opportunity to sell beer with Donna DeLacy before getting
up to the press box.
It was a big night at MIS and a memorable experience for everyone.
This past Friday night was the Champions' Invitational 100 and the return of
the super late models.
Nathan Haseleu topped the twenty-six car field after passing Jeff Storm on lap
52. It was a great field of cars with former MIS track champions Dave Feiler,
Scott Ollerman, and Dale Nottestad in the field along with many champions from
other tracks and / or series.
Steve Carlson, a nine time regional champion put together another strong
effort at MIS. Steve Holzhausen, a four time champion at LaCrosse, also had a
solid run.
Great to see Neil Knoblock on hand...twelve track championships to his credit
over the years including many at State Park Speedway near Wausau.
You can check out our website for a full race report.
Special thanks to Culvers and WJJO 94.1 for sponsoring the night's events.
Tim Syvrud made the most of his first visit to MIS by holding off Scott
Riedner to win the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman feature. Brian Paszek made his
MIS debut and finished in fifth. Second generation driver Tony Showers also
visited MIS for the first time. The Sportsman racing continues to be very
competitive. Tough luck awards go out to the Burns brothers who both suffered
problems and were unable to complete the feature.
He's been very tough every time he's been at MIS and this time he picked up
his first feature win of 2006. Rodney Mundt of Johnson Creek ran away with the
Roto Rooter Bandits feature.
A season high twelve Club La Mark Hobby Stocks were on hand with Jim Robinson
of Orfordville winning the feature. Mike Manley and Dennis Smith Jr. were on
hand for the first time this season.
Thanks to Sugar River Racing for the go kart exhibition on Friday night. Mike
"The Spike" Storkson won the exhibition race during intermission as
the karts got around the quarter mile very quickly.
Scotty Ernst returns to the announcing booth this week. Scotty has been
announcing in Europe as he works with an international RC car racing circuit.
Scotty, Lock, and myself will continue to keep our fans informed each and
every week.
Points Races Starting to Heat Up
Travis Sauter holds a thirty point advantage (284-254) over Bobby Wilberg in
the Weaver Auto Parts ASA Late Models. Nate Haseleu is third with 247 followed
by Dan Lensing with 235 and both Chad Wood and Nick Hammer at 220.
Jeremy Miller sits on top of the Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models
with a five point lead over Bobby Wilberg (193-188). Rounding out the top five
are Bill Baumeister (174), Jerry Gille (159), and Ryan Carlson (150).
Fueled by three feature wins, Scott Riedner holds a 399-366 lead over Scott
Lawver in the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman. Third place belongs to Casey Burns
with 308 followed by Shaun Scheel at 250 and Ryan Goldade moving into the top
five with 245.
The closest points race is in the Club La Mark Hobby Stocks where thirteen
points separates Johnny Robinson II from Mike Storkson (467-454). Despite some
bad luck the past two races, Kyle Stark is in third with 419 followed by Nick
Newton and Rodger Stephenson.
Tyler Kelley has led the Roto Rooter Bandits points all season long and
currently has a 529-494 lead over Stephen Scheel. Steve Dickson holds down the
third position with 487 followed by Rory Padfield with 458 and Kyle Riedner at
377.
Turn Four Kids Club Gets the Checkered Flag
Chuck West has done an outstanding job putting together the MIS Turn Four Kids
Club. Membership is at an all-time high this year. Kids and adults really like
the tradtional cotton candy, the Dippin Dots, prizes, and much more. Kids are
also buring off some of that extra energy in the bounce house.
MIS is truly a family friendly place. As I like to tell people, what sporting
events can you go to these days where kids eleven and under can get in free?
Pick Four Jackpot is Now $100.00
Be sure to purchase your MIS yearbook this Friday night and play "Pick
Four." You will find an entry form inside the yearbook...pick the four
winners...submit the entry before the running of the first feature...and keep
your fingers crossed. If we have more than one winner we will select one lucky
contestant to win the jackpot. No winners yet though we have had people select
three of the four so far.
Chaplain's Corner
by Todd Christopherson
how. But the best part of the evening was to see John Wood walking. I saw him
Tuesday, but Friday he came into the drivers meeting and talk to the guys
about having the HANS on at all time in the car. He said it only takes a
minute to get them ready and that minute would have probably saved him from
the injury. He said that we can have all kinds of excuses but none of them are
good ones.
As I walked away from the meeting I thought, so it is with God. We can have
all kinds of excuses not to follow Him, not to surrender to Him, not to give
our lives over to Him. But just like John, we do not know when an accident is
going to happen. John could have died in that accident, just like us, at any
time, life can end and we need to be ready.
Are you right with God? Are you ready to meet God? This is even more serious
then the HANS. This is eternal life we are talking about. Here is how I
understand getting right with God.
First, confess (agree) that God is God. That Jesus is Lord, fully man, fully
God. Second, agree that you/we have sinned. For me that was easy. I knew at 30
the things I had done that God says NO to. I knew that I had broke all 10 of
the Ten Commandments in one way or another.
Third, believe that God raised Jesus and that Jesus is the only one that can
pay for my/our sin. Four, turn our heart and life over to God. I said the
night I was saved that I knew, and God knew the sin in my life and that as
hard as I had worked for self and Satan that I would live for Christ with the
same passion.
I hope you are right with God and that you are living for the Lord.
Have a great week. I will be in Chicago Friday so have a great night at the
races and we will see you the following week.
We'll see you at the races this Friday night.
