The Super Late Models Return To MIS In Championship Style
By John Wells
Steve Einhaus can’t help but be excited when he talks about the major super
late model event coming up at Madison International Speedway. “It’s
going to be an historic night at MIS,” he said. This will be the second of
three major super late model events at the speedway in 2006.
Wisconsin’s Fastest Half-Mile and Track of Champions will be welcoming back
the super late models on Friday, June 30th when Culvers and WJJO 94.1 present
the Champions Invitational 100.
“We have invited a number of former series champions along with many past
MIS track champions to compete in this unique event. Fans are going to
see a spectacular field of drivers on the track at MIS as we present the best
of the best in the Midwest,” said promoter Steve Einhaus who added that some
drivers who were invited were unable to attend. The one hundred lap event will
pay $2000.00 to the winner.
The race will feature a unique format with eighteen drivers automatically
qualifying for a starting position in the twenty-six car field. Drivers
receiving and accepting invitations to this event include Steve Carlson of
West Salem, Steve Holzhausen of LaCrosse, Frank Kreyer of Pardeeville, Jeremy
Lepak of Wausau, Rich Bickle Jr. of Edgerton, Jamie Wallace of Pell Lake, Matt
Kocourek of Racine, Conrad Morgan of Dousman, Jeff Storm of Waterford, Scott
Ollerman of Sun Prairie, Dave Feiler of Sun Prairie, Sparta’s Tim Schendel,
Andrew Morrissey of DeForest, Nathan Haseleu of Pardeeville, Dale Nottestad of
Cambridge, Brian Johnson Jr. of South Beloit, Illinois, Jeremy Miller of
Rockton, Illnois, and Steve Rubeck of Cherry Valley, Illinois.
Former MIS track champions include Morgan in 1983, 1984, and 1992, Bickle Jr.
in 1985 and 1986, Feiler in 1998, 2002, and 2003, Ollerman in 1997, and
Nottestad in 2004. These drivers alone have accumulated over seventy
feature wins at MIS over the years.
“This is going to be a good combination of former track champions, guys who
have won a traveling series, and other top competitors,” added Einhaus.
However, it is the final eight positions that will be hotly contested.
“All super late model drivers are encouraged to throw their hats in the ring
for this one,” commented Einhaus. Six drivers will join the starting field
after qualifying with two drivers advancing from the last chance race. A
forty lap “B” Feature will be held for all drivers not making the
Champions Invitational 100 sponsored by Culvers and WJJO 94.1.
Einhaus commented, “This is going to be a great field and the competition
for the final eight starting positions will be intense. We are expecting
a great car count for this show.”
Entry forms will be available on the track’s website at www.madisoninternationalspeedway.com
with entry fee set at $50.00 with $25.00 of that returned to the drivers who
compete on race night.
Three weekly Madison International Speedway divisions will also be in action
with the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman, Club La Mark Hobby Stocks, and Roto
Rooter Bandits all racing on the quarter mile.
Pit gates open at 3:00 with hot laps set to begin at 4:45 with qualifying at
6:30 and racing at 7:30.
