Madison International Speedway Opener Set For May 7

Sunday, April 30, 2006 (Oregon, WI) - The long wait is finally over as the true sounds of spring will ring out at Madison International Speedway this weekend with the much anticipated season opener.

The event at Wisconsin's Fastest Half-Mile will feature the first-ever appearance by the Wisconsin Challenge Series (WCS) in what could very well be the largest single day turnout of super late models in the state of Wisconsin this season.  Well over fifty cars from throughout the midwest are expected to battle it out for a starting position in the Miller Classic 100.  In addition to the WCS, the Big Eight Series for limited late models will be in action along with the  Roto Rooter Bandits.  The limited late models will be racing on the half-mile while the four cylinder Bandits will mark the inaugural race on the brand new quarter mile oval which was installed last fall.

"This is going to be an awesome show.  The WCS has grown bigger and better each year and the field of drivers for this race at MIS is going to be outstanding," said MIS promoter Steve Einhaus.  "We have added the Big Eight Series to the racing card and they will bring a very high car count and talented drivers as well.  I think it is realistic that we will see well over one hundred cars between the three divisions here on May 7."

Racing fans can actually get a preview on Saturday, May 6th when Madison International Speedway hosts an open practice session.  On-track action begins at noon and continues until 5:00 PM.  Grandstand admission is free.

Pit gates for the May 7th Miller Classic at Madison International Speedway will open at 9:00 AM.  Practice sessions for all three divisions will begin at 11:30 followed by qualifying at 2:00 and racing at 3:30.  The WCS event will consist of  a pair of 25 lap qualifying races will determine the starting lineup for the 24 car feature contest.  The main event will be a 100 lap contest, which will be run in two 50 lap segments.

Adult admission is $15.00, students 12-16 are $12.00 with kids eleven and under  free.
