MIS E-News
Week of April 24, 2006
Greetings everyone from Madison International Speedway located in the
beautiful Town of Rutland. If the weather cooperates we are hoping to have the
new quarter-mile oval paved starting this Tuesday.
Best wishes on a speedy recovery to Area Sportsman driver Luke Padfield and
his father, Dale, who are recovering from injuries that occurred while working
on Luke's car.
Schedule for April 29 Set
The pits will open at 7:30 AM this Saturday for safety inspections and ASALM
engine certification. All cars planning to race at MIS in our weekly divisions
must have a safety inspection before racing. On track practice sessions will
begin at Noon and last until 5:00 PM. Only the half-mile will be open for
practice on Saturday. Hobby Stocks and Area Sportsman will not be able to get
on the new track until Friday, May 12 unless a practice session can be
scheduled. All racing events including practice sessions must be approved by
the Town of Rutland Board.
Pit passes for Saturday are $10.00 for members and $15.00 for non-members.
Please purchase your memberships this week to avoid having to pay the higher
amount on Saturday. You can go directly to our website to buy memberships,
passes, tickets, etc.
A trailer will be set up near the pit gate on Saturday where drivers and crew
members can purchase all racing related memberships for the 2006 season as
well.
A second practice session will be held on Saturday, May 6 from Noon until
5:00. At this point in time the only cars that will be able to practice on the
new quarter-mile will be the four cylinder Bandits.
Miller Classic Takes the Stage on May 7th
The much anticipated season opener comes to Madison International Speedway on
Sunday, May 7th with the first-ever appearance by the Wisconsin Challenge
Series. We are expecting over fifty super late models to race for a starting
position in the Miller Classic 100.
Joining the racing program will be the Big Eight Limited Late Model Series and
the Bandits. It is safe to say that a large field of Big Eight cars will be on
hand as they take on Wisconsin's Fastest Half-Mile. Please note that when they
return for the RK Race Promotions event on June 27 they will be racing on the
quarter mile.
The first ever action on the quarter mile will also occur on May 7th when our
four cylinder Bandit division is in action.
Pit gates will open at 9:00 AM with practice set for 11:30. Qualifying for the
WCS and Big Eight Limited Late Model Series begins at 2:00 with the first race
set for 3:30.
Adult tickets for the season opener will be $15.00.
So who's going to win this year's first of two WCS events at MIS? Any
predictions?
Night of Destruction Comes to MIS
Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 13 when the Night of Destruction comes
to MIS.
Here's what you can expect to see:
Nationally known Stuntman Tommy "Trubble" Mctague blast through a
wall of fire at over 50ft in the air and at 55mph while smashing into a field
of cars.
Benny "The Bomb" Koske who has appeared on Jay Leno's show. Benny
literally blows himself up inside of a normal everyday car and walks away
unscathed.
The Monster Truck "Chicago Outlaw as he smashes everything in his
way.
The world's largest Jet Engine "Outhouse."
The world's largest and fastest Jet Engine Tow Truck.
Our very own Bandits and Hobby Stocks will also be competing in the first of
two special events for them during the month of May.
Attention All Drivers:
1. Remember you must already be a member to receive the $10.00 pit pass price
on the 29th.
2. Transponders have been ordered from AMB will be distributed on practice
day. Don't forget to get your order in early online or by visiting us at the
track office to be guaranteed one on the first practice day.
Transponder Information
Should be mounted no more than 2 ft. above track surface and should have an
unobstructed path to the track. Mounting must be identical on all cars and
according to ASA rules which reads as follows: Transponder mount shall be on
the left side of the car; forty-one inches (41" from the rearward edge of
the 2"x 3" mid- section or rear cross member, immediately behind the
driver seat; on the inside of the rail in a vertical position. (see below)
Transponder Mounting Instructions
Using the back side of the Mid-Section rear cross-member, Marked A, measure
41" reward - toward the tail section. Mount the transponder bracket
(rechargeable), or unit(direct powered), on the inside of the LEFT REAR FRAME
RAIL LOCATION MARKED B, mount the transponder in the vertical position with
the mounting hole facing the top of the car.
Direct power wiring - Red wire to the +12V (fused circuit), Black wire to
ground (Chassis).
Rechargeable LED will flash red when charging. Green LED indicates fully
charged (after approx. 14 hours) with a minimum of 4 days use. Do not keep
charging once it is fully charged! Charge the transponder once every 3 months
or as needed.
The number of Green LED blinks will indicate number of days before charge runs
out. A blinking red LED indicates less than 24 hours left - steady red LED
indicates it could stop working anytime. A charged Transponder can be put into
sleep mode (turns off signal output to save battery life) by placing it in an
UNPLUGGED charging cradle - transponder will last up to 3 times longer during
a charge/discharge cycle. So, keep in cradle when not in use.
Weights of transponders:
Rechargeable - .22 lbs
Direct Power - .40 lbs
Sportsman, Hobby Stock, and Bandit News
Attention all Sportman, Hobby Stock and Bandit drivers - make sure you draw a
pill for your starting position in the heat races when entering the pits at
the front pit gate for each race. Your finish in the heat race will then
determine your starting position in the feature. Your starting position may
then be further affected by the invert determined by a pill draw.
Weekly Racing Qualifying Procedures Announced
This year on weekly racing events we will be following a new qualifying
procedure for the Weaver Auto Parts ASA Late Models and Rockweiler Insulation
Limited Late Models. Since these cars will be using transponders, we will no
longer do the one car at a time qualifying process. Instead, we will be
placing cars in groups of four based on their practice session times. Cars
will be grouped with cars of similar times. These cars will come out as a
group and take four laps with their lap times averaged. If a car spins during
qualifying it must return to the pits and only the completed laps (if any)
will be counted. Cars will run their heat races similar to how they have been
done in the past...based on their times.
The Bryden Motors Area Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, and Bandits will draw a number
when they arrive at the speedway. This will determine their starting order in
the heat race (s). If there are twenty cars in a division, the first ten
numbers would race in the first heat and so on. Finishing order in the heat
races will determine starting positions in the feature. It will be an odd-even
lineup with the winner of the first heat lining up first for the
feature...second heat winner would be outside the first row, etc. Once the
order has been determined an invert will be applied...so the heat winners
won't really be in the front row.
Hobby Stock Showdown and Battle of the Bandits Set
Madison International Speedway promoter Steve Einhaus announced that the Hobby
Stock Showdown and Battle of the Bandits have been set for Saturday, May 13
and Friday, May 26. Each event will pay $250.00 to win in the hobby stocks and
$200.00 to win in the Bandits.
Drivers Needed for May 13 Night of Destruction
Would you like to take your car or truck out on the new quarter mile? Here's
your chance to be part of the racing action and have a chance to win $100.00.
During the Night of Destruction on May 13 we will be holding our first
"One on One Street Drag." Eligible vehicles must have been driven to
the track and be properly licensed. Drivers will be required to purchase a pit
pass and must wear a racing helmet.
We are also looking for competitors for the "Blindfold Race." In
this event the driver of the vehicle will be blindfolded and will be receiving
directions from his / her passenger who is not blindfolded- wouldn't that be
interesting if they both couldn't see!
Both of these events are a lot of fun but entries are limited.
Sign up now by emailing the track at mismedia2@yahoo.com.
Questions and Answers
A fan from Janesville writes: Will we be able to use our receipts for $2.00
off the next week's admission?
Answer: Definitely...this is one way we can show our regular fans how much we
appreciate them and appreciate their loyalty.
>From Stoughton comes this question: Does MIS have a group sales program
for our local non-profit organization?
Answer: Yes. Non-profit groups such as Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, youth sports
team, and service organizations can pre-sell tickets to MIS racing events.
This is a great way to make some money for your group. Contact the track
office at 608.835.9700 for more information.
An email from Edgerton asked: Will you be having a Scout Night again this
year?
Answer: Yes we will and scouts in uniforms including their leaders will be
admitted free. We are trying to coordinate this with area scouting
organizations.
>From Madison came this question: Who will be announcing at MIS this year?
Answer: Two voices never before heard at Madison International Speedway will
be behind the mic in 2006. Jeff Lockridge will be in the tower with Scott
Earnst just about everywhere else from in the crowd to victory lane and all
points in between. Fans are going to enjoy listening to these guys. In fact,
many of you who listen to ESPN 1070 in Madison will recognize Jeff's voice.
Scott has a very interesting background in racing including working for Tony
Stewart. More on that later.
Actually, Chris Clark will be at MIS to announce the season opener on May 7.
A Sun Prairie MIS E-News recipient asked this question: Can fans contribute to
the 2006 MIS yearbook?
Answer: Yes...but hurry. I am putting together an article called
"Grandstanding" with long-time fans sharing their best memories of
MIS. Email me if you are interested in including your comments.
This question came to us from Brooklyn: Will MIS once again have a Kids Club?
Answer: Yes, we will. Look for a preview in an upcoming newsletter. I
understand it's going to be bigger and better than ever!
Keep those questions coming everyone!
Get Your Races on DVD
Miracle Video returns to MIS for another season of quality racing productions.
All races, including victory lane speeches, are recorded from the tower,
edited and burned to DVD. This whole night of racing is available the
following Friday, sold at the main gate, or delivered to your pit.
Each DVD sells for $15.
How about the in-car camera to catch your driving skills? This small camera
clamps to the roll bar, facing forward, backward or at the driver. The camera
is installed at your pit and you receive a copy of what you record on the
track. The in-car camera is priced at $30 per night. On practice days, the
install is free. This gives you the chance to see the equipment, and what it
can do for you.
