Summer Shootout Domination At The Mile
By John Wiedemann – www.racingwisconsin.com

Milwaukee – June 14, 2006– It was a night of domination in the Summer Shootout Series at the Milwaukee Mile on Wednesday night. Each division had a story of drivers showing they knew what it takes to get to the checkered flag. Victory Lane was filled with racers who had been there before and were determined to return.

The Super Cups returned to the Summer Shootout for their second appearance. Morgan Schissel jumped to the lead in the feature race and was not to be denied his second win of the year. The young racer led all the way to the checkers, pulling away from the field in the process. Schissel was followed to the finish line by Cody Lipstieuer, Greg Ballard, Camdon Murphy, Allisa Meyers and Cheyanne Ballard.

Bandolero racing had a new name in the heat race win column as Blake Brown parlayed his pole position start into a flag to flag win. While Brown put up a good fight, he was unable to hold off a charging Kyle Jusits in the feature. Justis took over the lead near the halfway point and took the checkered flag first to stay undefeated in the 2006 season. Brown followed Jusits to the line to take second with Aaron Moyer in third and Kyle Piecko moving from the back of the pack to a fourth place finish.

Family ties were the name of the game in the Thunder Roadster division as the usual culprits, Mike Piecko, Sr. and his son Mike, Jr. put on a racing exhibition as they have in every race they have been together in. It seems like there is no other driver that has as much fun as these two do. Unfortunately for Senior, Junior seems to have the upper hand in the battle. That was not the case in the heat race as Mike Sr. took the lead away from Mike Jr. and grabbed the win. In celebration, Mike Sr. showed off his burnout skills and pulled into victory lane.

With the two Pieckos on the front row of the Thunder Roadster feature, fans knew there would be action on the track. They were not disappointed as the two racers battled for the entire race culminating with their rides getting together in turn three, Senior getting some air time and both cars spinning out. Mike Jr. got his roadster going first and held off Mike Sr. for another win to extend his streak to nine Thunder Roadster feature wins in a row at the Milwaukee Mile.

In the Allison Legacy feature run in conjunction with the Thunder Roadsters, Nick Beinlich returned to victory lane with his second win of the season holding off Brock Russell.

The car count in the Legends division was down but the action remained the same as the usual suspects battled at the front of the pack. Ernie Schaal was hoping tonight would be his turn to take the checkers but racing fate had other plans. In the heat race, Schaal lost ground avoiding a spinning competitor on the first lap. Charging from the back of the pack, fourth place was all that the seventeen year old could get to as he ran out of laps chasing down the lead pack. Michael Bilderback took the heat race win followed by Ryan Miles and Curt Gnatzig.

The feature would provide Schaal with the same type of luck. While Schaal was battling for position with Gnatzig and Miles, Bilderback turned his front row start into big lead. Schaal was able to gain a solid hold on second place and started his chase of Bilderback. While starting to gain ground, fate played its card. Schaal lost the muffler off his Legend and the power went with it. Bilderback ran off and took the win, his second in two weeks. “It was a good win but, I think Ernie could have caught me”, commented Bilderback. Schaal held on to the second position followed by Gnatzig and Miles.

Unfortunately, the night ended with some sad news in a statement from the Milwaukee Mile. “The current Milwaukee Mile Summer Shootout Series activities are under evaluation. The remaining 2006 events have been postponed until further notice. We appreciate your interest and participation, and will provide updates via this webpage (www.racingwisconsin.com) and by personal contact with participating teams.”
