Hundreds Of Race Fans Take Laps In "Drive The Mile”
Admission included non-perishable food donation to Hunger Task Force
MILWAUKEE (May 8, 2006) – Race fans and classic car enthusiasts took
advantage of the annual offer to “Drive The Mile” at The Milwaukee Mile
speedway yesterday, Sunday May 7. Minivans, motorcycles and dump trucks
took laps around America’s Legendary Oval for a contribution and two
non-perishable food donations to Hunger Task Force of Southeast Wisconsin.
Individuals took their personal vehicles and classic hot rods around The Mile,
with over 400 car club enthusiasts participating in a car show in the
infield. Classic cars intermingled on-track with passenger cars ranging
from the exotic to the ordinary. Music by Dietrich, and a free swap meet
and car corral added to the day-long event, with appearances by Milwaukee Mile
Grid Girls and photos in Victory Circle were taken for a $5 donation to the
Hunger Task Force.
“We were very pleased with the support and participation of hundreds of car
clubs and our fans, who made our “Drive The Mile” event a huge success,”
commented Milwaukee Mile President & CEO Andy Randall. “This is
just one more way we intend to engage and involve our fans as we go forward to
further the great tradition of auto racing at America’s Legendary Oval.”
Joining the festivities was Milwaukee Mile investor and former Green Bay
Packer Gilbert Brown, who debuted his 1957 Chevrolet stock car owned by Matt
Leppard, a member of the Grand National Vintage Racing group that will be in
action on Friday, June 23rd at The Mile in conjunction with the Toyota Tundra
Milwaukee 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series events.
The Milwaukee Mile kicks off their 2006 racing season with the June 2-4 Time
Warner Cable Road Runner 225 Champ Car World Series event weekend. Race
fans who participated in “Drive The Mile” can now stake claim that they
have driven The Milwaukee Mile, just as Paul Tracy, A.J. Allmendinger,
Katherine Legge and the remaining Champ Car stars will, when The Milwaukee
Mile kicks off its 2006 racing season with the June 2-4 Time Warner Cable Road
Runner 225 Champ Car World Series event weekend.
