ARCA RE/MAX Series Heads To Milwaukee Mile; Brings Tradition, History

WEST ALLIS WI  (5-31-05)  - Two motorsports traditions rich in history join forces for the first time in more than 20 years this weekend when the Milwaukee Mile hosts the ARCA RE/MAX Series for the ARCA 150.

“We are thrilled to visit Milwaukee for the first time since 1983,” said Ron Drager, president of ARCA. “Given the rich and varied histories of both the ARCA RE/MAX Series and the Milwaukee Mile, we are looking forward to a successful race weekend.”

The ARCA RE/MAX Series began in 1953 under the leadership of John Marcum in Toledo, Ohio. Since that time, the series has competed on a wide variety of racing surfaces, from the high speeds of Daytona International Speedway, to short track wars at places like Salem Speedway in Indiana and Toledo Speedway in Ohio. Names such as Iggy Katona, Benny Parsons, Jack Bowsher, Red Farmer and Michael Waltrip have competed in ARCA RE/MAX Series events.

The Milwaukee Mile, however, has a history just as long and impressive as that of ARCA. The track was constructed in 1903 and is the oldest operating speedway in the world. Currently, the Milwaukee Mile hosts a number of sanctioning bodies every race season, including NASCAR, USAC, IRL and ARCA.

A number of ARCA RE/MAX Series drivers have already entered the race, including Frank Kimmel, Joey Miller, Chad Blount and David Ragan. Also entered is 27-year-old Roland Rehfeld, who is visiting the U.S. from Germany and attempting to make his ARCA RE/MAX Series debut.

“Milwaukee is good because I’m used to racing on short tracks in Britain and Germany,” Rehfeld said.  Rehfeld will be driving the Hantz Group Motorsports Dodge as part of their driver development program.

Optional rig parking at the event will be available on Thursday evening, June 2, with registration, practice and Pork Pole Qualifying slated for Friday, June 3. The ARCA 150, LIVE on SPEED Channel, kicks off at the Milwaukee Mile at 2:30pm CST, directly after the 12:00pm CST start time of the Time Warner Cable Road Runner 225 presented by U.S. Bank Champ Car race.
