Racing Legend A.J. Foyt Involved In Entitlement
by Jim Tretow
INDIANAPOLIS (May 13, 2005) – Today, with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as
the setting and with the participation of racing legend A.J. Foyt, The
Milwaukee Mile proudly announced ABC Supply Co, Inc. as race entitlement
sponsor of their July 24 IRL IndyCar Series race.
ABC Supply Co., Inc., based in Beloit, Wis., is the largest wholesale
distributor of roofing and siding materials, tools and supplies in the United
States. In addition to a multi-year agreement to back The Milwaukee Mile
IndyCar Series event, ABC Supply Co., Inc. will also sponsor the entry of A.J.
Foyt Enterprises and driver A.J. Foyt IV in the 89th running of the
Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 29.
“As a Wisconsin-based company, and with so many of our customers and
associates in the area, we are thrilled to be sponsoring the ABC Supply / A.J.
Foyt 225 at The Milwaukee Mile,” says company founder and CEO Ken
Hendricks. “After all, what better way to experience Indy Car racing
than by sponsoring a race in our own backyard.”
Foyt, the first four-time winner of the Indianapolis 500 as a driver, has
agreed to incorporate his name into the title of The Milwaukee Mile’s
IndyCar Series race for the second consecutive year. The Houston native
will again partake in The ‘Mile’s race weekend activities the fourth
weekend in July while staying hands-on as owner/team engineer for his team.
A number of Foyt’s driving successes, as well as disappointments behind the
wheel, are interwoven into the storied history of The Milwaukee Mile, a track
at which he competed at more than any other speedway in his driving career.
“I’m really glad that ABC Supply Co. is sponsoring the AJ Foyt 225 at the
Milwaukee Mile. It means a lot to me for our new team sponsor to show
that kind of support,” Foyt commented. “I think they will really
enjoy the race weekend because Milwaukee has always been a great place to
race. It’s got a lot of history and a lot of great fans. I’ve had good
times and some not so good times on the track but I can say one thing:
the steaks in Milwaukee are the best I’ve ever had and that’s coming from
someone who lives in Texas.”
One of the most versatile drivers to ever strap on a helmet, Foyt competed an
estimated 98 times at The ‘Mile in Indy Cars, USAC Stock Cars, Midgets,
Silver Crown and Sprint Cars. “Super Tex” captured 10 wins at
America’s Legendary Oval, six in Stock Cars. He collected four of his
record 67 career IndyCar victories there - three from the pole position -
between 1962 and 1979.
“We are proud to welcome a wonderful Wisconsin company, ABC Supply Co., Inc.
to The Milwaukee Mile family,” said Gary Girard, General Manager of the
newly-improved speedway. “Our loyal race fans love and respect A.J.
Foyt, one of the world’s all-time greatest race car drivers. We are ecstatic
he is taking an active role in what will be an unforgettable weekend of racing
with the stars of the Indy 500 at The Milwaukee Mile July 22nd through
24th.”
The “ABC Supply / A.J. Foyt 225” will be televised live on ESPN on Sunday,
July 24 at 2:30 p.m. EST.
