A Mid-American Memorial Day

(Fort Atkinson, WI)  May 7, 2006    Grundy County Fairgrounds, Morris, Il. will soon host a powerful weekend of serious racin’ when the ASA Late Models and the Mid-American Stock Cars attempt to rattle the needle on the Illinois Richter scale.  Entry numbers are expected to be record worthy as the ASA Late Models and the new generation Mid-American Stock Cars dance together exclusively for the first time Monday, May 29th.  It should be an exciting program.

After the successful opener at Rockford Speedway on April 1st, the Mid-American Stock Car Series will have waited two months before competing again as a series. It’s like having the season opener all over again. Mid-American Stock Cars will have the opportunity to make up for lost laps and make a weekend out of it as they can race the Friday night weekly show at the Fairgrounds then mosey over to Illiana Motor Speedway on Saturday night.  Both tracks have weekly Mid-American rules shows.  Then back to the Fairgrounds Monday afternoon to match the best of the North Woods with the best of the Flat Landers as they reach for the brass ring at the checkered flag of the 50 lap feature.

“We are anxious to return to Grundy County Speedway after several years,” says Mid-American President, Doug Strasburg.  He continues, “We are hoping for another good turn out although many Minnesota and northern Wisconsin entries would sacrifice a good nights sleep to return to work on Tuesday.  The Mid-American Stock Car people are true working class racers and are what “grass roots racing” is all about.  They work ordinary jobs all day, spend hours every night in the race car shop and go racing with their family and friends as the pit crew on the weekend.  Many times these friends collectively pool their funds to make the next race.  Miles logged on tow vehicles each year is staggering. You even see friends and funds cross team lines to help each other get there.”  The Mid-American leader continues, “It’s a humbling position to be in, taking this great group into the next generation.  It’s a challenge just to meet my own expectations to say nothing of the hopes of the teams.”

Grundy County Speedway pit gates will open at 8:30 and fan gates at 1:00 Monday, May 29th.  Memorial day qualifying begins at 1:30.  At 3:15 there will be an on track autograph Session for fans with racing scheduled to begin at 4:30.  The Mid-American Stock Car 50 lap feature will bring will bring the curtain down on a great racing weekend.

Mid-American Series racers can also break-in and sort-out on Saturday night, May 13th on the historic Lake Geneva Raceway in Southeastern Wisconsin.  Lynch GM Superstore of Burlington, WI is sponsoring the special Pot-O-Gold Mid-Am Sportsman $1000.00 to win, $100 to start feature, as LGR promises this 44th and final year will be a memorable one.  This is a track-sanctioned event with LGR points and the 2-tire rule.  John Fischer, of Lynch Superstore, “Hope(s) to see everyone come out for this 1st and final annual event.”
