Former USAC Stock Car Front Runner Among Stock Car Classics Drivers Expected At Mile
WEST ALLIS, WI -- Terry Ryan of Davenport, IA, who finished second to A.J.
Foyt in the 1978 USAC Stock Car point standings, will return to the Milwaukee
Mile Saturday, Aug. 27 for the Stock Car Classics race on the one-mile oval as
part of the Governor's Cup Weekend.
The classic stock cars will practice at 5:40 p.m. Friday. All teams must
be registered no later than 7:30 a.m. Saturday. A second practice is
planned at 9:10 a.m. with a 12-mile race planned at 4:35 p.m.
"We always liked racing at the Mile," Ryan said. "Bay
Darnell gave me some advice for a setup there and that setup is still in the
car today," Ryan added. He has raced the car recently at a racers
reunion in Columbus Junction, IA, but has not been back to The Mile since
1981.
John Vassh of Racine is the Stock Car Classics point leader coming into the
race with a 1971 Dodge Charger.
Among the other drivers expected are Dick Karth of Grafton, WI with a Dick
Trickle NASCAR 1996 Thunderbird, Gary Stein of Northfield, MN in a 1966 Chev
USAC Bob Jusola stock car, Chuck King of Lombard, Il in a Shawna Robinson 2001
NASCAR Taurus, Bill Paul of Brookfield, WI in a Brett Bodine NASCAR 2001
Taurus, Dave Carlson of Rubicon, WI in a Lake Speed NASCAR 1987 Olds Cutlass,
Steve Markey of Villa Park, IL in a Tommy Houston NASCAR 1992 Thunderbird, Jim
Riffer of Franksville, WI in a 1957 short track Ford, Bill Prietzel of
Franklin, WI in a Ward Burton 2000 NASCAR Dodge, and Mike Stein of Lakeville,
MN in a 1977 short track Camaro.
Drivers from all vintage stock car clubs are invited to compete.
