Piontek Takes The Royal Rumble At WIR
By Dean Reller
KAUKAUNA, WI (August 2, 2005) - Brett Piontek made a late move pay off as he
won the Mid-Am Stock Cars vs the Mid-Am Super Trucks Royal Rumble at the
Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna. Bill Prietzel, a driver of both
divisions, opted to run his truck and took the lead from his number two
starting spot. Hot and heavy racing would take it’s toll on lap 2, when a
pair of racers got together in turn three, sending everyone else scrambling.
Prietzel continued to show the way as Piontek had Eddie Muenster, in his first
pavement race of the year, looking for a way around.
With less than ten laps remaining, Todd Mott and Gary Tisler, who fighting
each other for position, got together in turn three, just in front of the
leaders. The rest of the field made it by without incident as the yellow flag
waved. Prietzel held the lead on the restart, but two laps later, Piontek
pulled alongside and snatched the lead out of turn four. Prietzel fell back in
the final laps as Piontek went unchallenged the rest of the way for the win in
his car.
