VanOudenhoven Wins Wally Jors Memorial Cup At WIR
By Dean Reller
KAUKAUNA, WI (August 2, 2005) - Jeff VanOudenhoven one of the top Midwest
Allstar Racing Series drivers showed off his stuff at his home track as he won
the Wally Jors Memorial Cup at the Wisconsin International Raceway in
Kaukauna. Trent Snyder started on the pole with Trevor Stewart alongside.
Snyder quickly assumed the lead as fourth starting VanOudenhoven began working
the outside lane as he sought the lead. VanOudenhoven would make the pass on
lap four as Lowell Bennett took second and Steve Carlson moved to third.
Bennett didn’t have enough to challenge VanOudenhoven as Carlson overtook
him for the runner-up spot. Also on the move was Jim Duchow, who started near
the rear of the field, but wasted no time in working his way towards the
front.
The only caution of the race flew on lap 22, when Trent Snyder and John Meidem
got together in turn four. VanOudenhoven took command when the race resumed as
Carlson looked to unseat him. Duchow then stepped things up as he moved to
third and began to work on Carlson. This allowed VanOudenhoven to extend his
lead by a few car lengths. With five laps to go, Duchow slipped by Carlson for
second. By that time it was too late to move up any more as VanOudenhoven
finished things off and took home the win.
