Carlson Expected To Do Double Duty At Tuesday Night Shootout
KAUKAUNA, WI -- Steve Carlson, a many time ARTGO and NASCAR Touring champion,
is expected to be racing in two divisions at the Tuesday Night Shootout August
2 at the Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna. Qualifying
begins at 4 p.m. with racing on the WIR D-shaped half-mile paved track at 7:15
p.m.
Carlson, who has won previous major Tuesday night races at WIR, will be
driving a 2005 Monte Carlo in the B & B Racing Engines Late Model Shootout
for the Wally Jors Cup. His ride for the 44-lap feature is
sponsored by Gordon Epping, CPA and Lloyd's Speed Shop.
The late model race will pit the top ten Midwest AllStar Racing Series cars
against some top local and regional competitors.
He is also expected to compete in the American StockCar League 150. His
ASL car is a 2004 Monte Carlo owned by Russ Blakeley of Whitewater, WI.
The ASL car was driven in ASA National Tour competition by current NASCAR
Nextel Cup driver Scott Wimmer.
The ASL was formed this winter as a replacement series for the former ASA
National Tour with the rules remaining basicially the same. The
new ASL series recently switched from radial tires to less expensive bias ply
tires.
The tire switch is expected to help bring out the largest ASL field of cars so
far in 2005.
Several preliminary races will kick off the program at 7:15 p.m.
The Royal Rumble Mid-Am Super Trucks vs. Mid-American Stock Car 30 is also on
the slate for Aug. 2.
A free autograph session runs from 5 to 6 p.m. The first 200 fans
through the gates will receive customer appreciation gift bags containing over
$10 worth of merchandise and coupons.
Consult the series website at www.asl-midamracing.com
for more information. The raceway is located at the corner of Highway 55
and County KK, three miles south of Kaukauna. Free camping is
available for taveling race fans.
