16-Year-Old Cassill Ready For First ASL Victory At WIR August 2
KAUKAUNA, WI -- Landon Cassill just turned 16 years old, but he's ready to
become the youngest major race winner ever at Wisconsin International Raceway
in Kaukauna when the American StockCar League 150 is held at Tuesday night,
Aug. 2 at 7:15 p.m.
The Fairfax, IA racer has been competing in late model cars for two years at
his hometown track in Cedar Rapids, IA and has impressed everyone with his
smooth driving style. This year he has set out on a 60-race
schedule all across the nation in the American StockCar League (ASL), ASA Late
Model Series and CRA Super Series.
"I had to get out to other tracks. This is the direction my career
needs to go," Cassill noted.
He has been fast in the ASL so far in 2005, but his best finish didn't come
until the last race at I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre, MN. "The
adjustments we made during the ten minute halfway break were a factor in
Landon keeping the car running in the top five," said crew chief Mike
Lorz of Lorz MotorSports.
Cassill landed a ride with Lorz MotorSports after the ASL was formed in
February when the ASA National Tour was disbanded. Lorz MotorSports has
fielded cars for many top drivers in the past including two-time ASA champion
Gary St. Amant. Lorz MotorSports has been involved in the ASA type
level of racing since 2001 and prior to that fielded a car for the ARCA
circuit.
Cassill is currently tied for ninth in the series points with John Vig,
Jr. He is among an incredible field of rookie drivers battling for
the Pat Schauer Memorial Rookie of the Year Award. Some 14 of the top 20
drivers in points are eligible for the rookie of the year award.
The ASL 150 at WIR will be part of the Tuesday Night Shootout which also
includes the B & B Race Engines 44-lap Late Model Shootout for the Wally
Jors Memorial Cup and the 30-lap Royal Rumble which pits the top eight
Mid-American Stock Cars against the top eight Mid-Am Super Trucks.
Qualifying begins at 4 p.m. followed by a free autograph session from 5 p.m.
to 6 p.m. The first 200 fans through the gate will receive
customer appreciation bags containing racing merchandise and coupons worth
$10. The track features free camping and free parking. WIR is
located three miles south of Kaukauna at the corner of Highway 55 and County
KK. Call 920-766-5577 for more information.
