"The Real Deal" Unstopable At Madison Mid-Am Super Truck Feature

OREGON, WI -- Mark "The Real Deal" Storlie took advantage of Todd Schmitz's misfortune to win the Mid-Am Super Truck 35-lap feature race Friday night before a large crowd at Madison International Speedway in Oregon, WI.

Schmitz, in his first Mid-Am Series appearance of the year and second overall, had a comfortable lead on lap 19 when some spark plug wires caught fire on his Chevrolet and he was forced to pull into the infield where the track safety crew quickly doused the flames and the race continued.

Dan Chesmore, a former late model champion at the Jefferson Speedway, took over the lead for two laps before being overhauled by Tony Holm.   Holm led until the 30th circuit when Storlie squeezed inside and pulled away to an eight-truck length win.   Holm was second followed by new track record holder Vincent Wilkinson, former series champion Donnie Woller and Madison International Speedway point leader Dann Barber.

Schmitz took the lead from the outset.  The only wreck of the event occurred on lap four when Missouri driver Ricky Archer made contact with the backstretch wall.  Archer was not injured, but his super truck was done for the evening.

The next appearance by the super trucks will be Tuesday night, Aug. 2 at Wisconsin International Raceway in the "Tuesday Night Shootout".  The super trucks will take on the Mid-American Stock Cars in a 30-lap Royal Rumble  feature along with the 44-lap B & B Race Engines Late Model Shootout for the Wally Jors Memorial Cup and the American Stock Car League 150.  Qualifying begins at 4 p.m. with racing at 7:15 p.m.
