Seubert Inc Eve Of Destruction Smashing Hit
By: Mary Langreck

Despite the threats of rain from Mother Nature and a bit of cold, the Seubert Inc Eve of Destruction 2006 finale show went underway without a hitch.

The freestyle burn out competition was won by Terry Gorst of Mosinee in his grey 1978 van.  Terry has been here with many close attempts, but this was his first win at MSS>

The tire race started with over 60 competitors.  After several laps around the half-mile, officials moved the remaining racers to the small track and then to the front stretch only.  Waylon Dupee of Dexterville beat out his opponents in his TJ’s Auto sponsored machine to win the tire race.

“Hot Rod” Rodney’s stunt was next as he attempted to jump over six cars, and then smash through a motorhome and boat.  He took his Zebra painted school bus, traveling at high speeds coming out of turn one and drove it off the ramp.  He easily sailed over the cars and came crashing through the motorhome.  He then took off with the bus to make another lap, and was going to jump the ramp again, however the clean-up crew had already started before he made it back around.  Rodney was forced to save his bus for another day.

The bus racers were Brian Carl, John Strausser, Fran Esser, Chad Krueger, Marc Baldwin, Ryan Pribbernow and Rodney Feltz.  As the group came out of turn four three wide, the destruction began.  With only one lap completed, Carl, Strausser, Baldwin and Feltz all had to retire their buses to the pits.  The race was on with the final three for four more laps.  Baldwin was able to bring his bus back out, but was unable to get back up to speed.  Krueger led, as Esser and Pribbernow battled hard for second.  Pribbernow was able to break free of Esser on the inside and began to chase down Krueger.  Krueger held them off for the win, his first bus win ever!

The new Whip Around Races were next with five heats.  First lap around the big track counter-clockwise.  Rear wheels must cross start/finish line.  Turn around & second lap make clockwise around the big track.  If you finished 1st or 2nd you advanced to the feature.  Heat winners were Tucker Miller, Jason Matyka, Waylon Dupee, Rodney Feltz and Josh Sauckman.  Feltz looked as though he would be taking charge of the lead, until Tucker Miller came through behind him on the bottom.  Miller sent Feltz around, into the wall, and taking the lead.  Miller fended off the rest of the field as well, for the win.  Miller is sponsored by Hilltop Auto Wrecking and Steve Martin Auto.

Five heats were the qualifiers for the Double O 2nd Over the Line feature.  The drivers made a lap on the small track, one on the half-mile, and another one on the small track.  Then they had to try to position themselves to be the 2nd car to cross the start/finish line.  Heat winners were Anthony Meyer, John Strausser, Todd Sherfield, Justin Eskeldsen and Gary Mann.  John Strausser of Stratford in his Finesse Drywall, Jan’s Opticla, Dahl’s Bus Service, Kuyoth Body & Custom, Jim’s Transmission and Butch’s Service machine won the feature event, after a lot of pushing and shoving by the entire field.

The full size trucks/vans/suv’s Double O 2nd Over the Line race, was won by Cory Patterson of Athens in his Kustom Auto Repair, Patterson’s Auto Body and CWB Auto Racing truck.

Another new event to the eve were the stop n go races. Competitors started on the start/finish line.  Then had to come to a complete stop inside the area designated with barrels on the backstretch.  Once having completely stopped, they could go again.  Then stop again (a complete stop) on the front stretch inside the area designated with barrels.  There were two (2) laps this way on the big track only.  If you finished 1st or 2nd then you advanced to the feature.  Heat winners were Tucker Miller, Josh Sauckmann, Waylon Dupee and Adam Roder.  Matt Phelps, who finished second in the first heat, won the feature event.  Phelps is sponsored by Hastreiter Construction and Marc’s Auto Body.

The third new event was the Double O Last Man races.  Competitors raced first lap big track, second lap small track, big track third lap, fourth lap small track etc.  Each lap completed, big or small track, the last man to cross the start/finish line is eliminated from the race until a winner was declared.  Heat race winners went on to run the feature.  Heat race winners were Dave Northcott, Tucker Miller, Shawn Carpenter, Anthony Meyer and Jim Esser.  Dave Northcott of Mosinee in his CWB Racing car won the feature race.

The full size trucks/vans/suv’s relay race was up next.  Each driver must have a partner.  The first car is on the start/finish line with his partner behind him.  The first car makes a lap on the half-mile and then must drive up behind his partner and make contact with him.  Then the second car takes off to complete a lap on the half-mile.  Eric Krause of Spencer and Jason Krause of Stratford were the winning Relay team.

The fire breathing machine of Doug Rose’s Green Mamba Jet Car set up next to meltdown a limousine.  Doug has been piloting the Green Mamba since 1968.  It produces over 6000 HP.  Doug burned that limo until it was white hot and was no longer recognizable.

Specialty Fireworks returned for a great fireworks show and to put the exclamation point on the evening.

The 2007 Marshfield Super Speedway season will kickoff with an Eve of Destruction on Saturday, April 14th, with the show starting late afternoon again.
