Widdis Takes Limited Late Model Fast Time And Feature Win

The StageStop Restaurant and 99.9 WIZD race night saw Bret Widdis of
Manistique, MI take the top honors in the Limited Late Model Challenge.
Corey Jankowski of Tomah grabbed the CarQuest super stock quick time.
Kyle Opelt took fast time and the 4-cylinder feature win. Dave Knauf
timed in quickest and won the 1-man cruiser feature. The pure stock fast
timer was Chad Simone.
The limited late model feature had a rough start with five cars forced to pit
before one lap was completed, several were able to rejoin the field.
Paul Block led the first two laps. Then Jerry Van Handel took the lead
for the following three laps. Mike Ehde, Jack Pankratz and Bret Widdis
were all in hot pursuit of the lead. Ehde won the battle for six laps
taking the lead from Van Handel. Widdis followed suit pulling up behind
Ehde in the second spot. By lap 12 Widdis passed Ehde for the lead and
began to pull away from the field. Kurt Clapper continued to race strong
in the fourth spot as Justin Woller and Kyle Calmes tried to challenge him for
his position. Clapper worked on taking the third spot from Van Handel.
Clapper succeeded on lap 20, taking over third. Widdis looked as though
he would cruise to the win, but the caution flew on lap 33. The field
tightened up for the restart and Ehde tried to take the lead from the inside
of Widdis, unsuccessfully. Widdis won, Ehde second, Van Handel third,
Clapper fourth and Calmes fifth. Kyle Calmes also won the Triple
Challenge points race for the Limited Late Model Challenge Series.
Denny Jo Crass led the first lap of the CarQuest super stock feature.
Randy Meyer moved from second to first the next lap. Travis Zvolena took
the second position from Crass on lap three and began to chase Meyer.
Larry Schultz, Matt Pyburn, Cale Laessig and Wes Coon all chased to the front
spots. Meyer and Zvolena started to pull away from the field while
Laessig led the second pack of cars. Pyburn and Corey Jankowski were
right on Laessig’s heels. Pyburn then took charge of the third
spot. Pyburn then caught the leaders, working Zvolena for second and
then starting to challenge Meyer for the lead. Pyburn took the lead from
Meyer the remaining two laps, to win the feature. Coon moved up to
finish second, Weinfurter third, Jankowski fourth and Meyer fifth.
The 4-cylinder first half of the feature was led by Ricky Brandl. Lots
of three and four-wide racing throughout the feature gave the fans thrilling
action. Jeremiah Strauss, Dan McGiveron, JJ Flick and Kyle Opelt all
quickly came from the back to the front during the first part of the
feature. Strauss passed Brandl for the lead on lap eight. Flick
and Opelt worked together to get by Brandl and then Flick began to work on the
lead, but Opelt had other plans as he passed Flick and raced into the lead on
the white flag lap. Opelt pulled ahead for the win, Strauss second,
Flick in a close third, Brandl fourth and point leader Steve Stewart fifth.
The 4-cylinder semi-feature was won by Eric Haring with Clinton Metzler in a
very close second, advancing both drivers to the feature.
The 1-man cruiser/junkyard warrior feature was led by Lester Kuehn for the
first six laps. Wayne Dietz led the next three, until fast timer Dave
Knauf took the lead for the win. The race ended on the white flag lap as
Todd Hoeper who had been running sixth found himself in the turn four
wall. Knauf won, Dietz second, Kuehn third, Justin Moore fourth and Kyle
Rasmussen fifth.
Rich Delis Jr. led the first three laps of the pure stock feature.
Points leader Kyle Genett made a three-wide to the outside pass stick to take
charge of the lead. Fast timer Chad Simone quickly moved up into the
second spot. Chuck Stebbins moved into third after the caution flew for
a spin involving Delis, Skylar Domine and Shawn Carpenter. Delis was the
only one able to continue. Genett led the field for the win, Simone
second, Stebbins third, Jeff Behrens fourth and Luke Lindner fifth.
The IROC Saturn first race of the evening was to celebrate Loren and Molly
Mulraney’s 50th Wedding Anniversary and they raced! Dustin Ruxton won
the race, Andrew Mulvaney second, Loren Parker third, Molly Mulvaney fourth,
Loren Mulvaney fifth and Scott Ruxton sixth.
The second IROC Saturn race was won by Jesse Schultz. Corey Schultz
finished second, Rob Schooley third, Teresa Schultz fourth and Brenda Bravener
fifth.
Next Saturday, September 2nd is the John Bell Memorial race night. Main
Gates open at 5 p.m., Miller Time Trials at 5:30, and the racing starts at 7
p.m. Race divisions include: CarQuest Super Late Models, CarQuest
Super Stocks, 4-Cylinders, 1-Man Cruisers, Junkyard Warriors, and Pure
Stocks. Marshfield Super Speedway is located 3.5 miles west of
Marshfield on County Road H with weekly Saturday night stock car racing April
through September. Adult grandstand admission is $10.00, Students ages
10-15 yrs. $5.00 and under 10 yrs FREE with a parent. Rain date for
Sunday two hours earlier.
Everyone 16 yrs and older may sign up FREE every race night to win the 2006
Dodge Charger Pace Car.
